I agree the big pharma companies are a big problem; I don't disagree for a moment that a lot of drug trials are suspect and corrupt. But in defence of doctors, a lot of them truly care and are doing their best, often in far from perfect circumstances. As someone who has had quite a lot of contact with the NHS in the past few years, I would say the GPs and psychiatrists (i.e. the ones who write the prescriptions) have also been the most emotionally supportive and encouraging to me - they've been my constant reassurance when therapists made things worse, I couldn't talk to my family and was tired of boring my (excellent) friends with my problems.
