greetings.all
i.did.not.manage.so.well.this.time,alas
there.were.three.reasons.for.my.failure.this.time.around
(despite.the.success.of.the.previous.two.stints)

1.i.made.the.period.of.time.too.long.
my.last.stint.was.only.ten.days.and.was.quite.manageable;
suddenly.doubling.it.to.twenty.was.a.bit.optimistic.

2.i.was.overconfident.and.thus.told.members.not.to.trouble.themselves
with.offering.messages.of.support.
although.this.was.out.of.consideration.for.members,in.retrospect,i.did.need
the.regular.support.after.all.and.should.have.simply.allowed.it.

3.some.really.difficult.personal/family.issues.came.up,and.they.are.continuing.
i.know.i.will.have.to.give.up.one.day,but.in.the.short.term,im.just.trying.to.get.through
the.coming.weeks.without.too.much.stress.

I.said.i.would.fess.up.if.i.failed,so.here.it.is.
when.im.ready.to.really.give.it.another.go,
i.will.let.members.know.

Thank.you.again.for.your.well.wishes.and.support.overall
with.all.three.stints.

metta,
manas. :anjali:

Don't fret about it too much - you will eventually have complete success.

It WILL happen.

Hi Manas. Best wishes on your journey. I'm 31 days into my stop smoking attempt , it's been hard but worth it. I found this website ( nosmoking.org.uk ) to be of great support , it's not a buddhist site of course but the people who use it are very compassionate and caring. There is a forum where you can submit your messages feelings etc and where people reply bit like here really. Everyone on the site are at various stages of quitting smoking.I realise that your commitment is for a limited period but it may help. Hope this helps. Love Jonno.

Hi manas
My father smoked all his life(died aged78 ) frim age 14
He tried many times to give up but could never do it. Finally he cutdown to about 5 cigs a day which is still much healthier thanhis 2 pack a day habit.

Manas -

How about making smaller vows - such as vowing not to smoke in the next hour?

I think there's often an element of pride in making big resolutions - one can recognize it when it feels demeaning to make small resolutions.
