Cellular..Kim,Chris/16 Candles

Dear Members,

Cellular, starring: beautiful Kim Basinger and handsome hunk Chris Evans(looks very much like Ricky Nelson)
Image

This is one of my favorite movies in recent years. In the film, Jessica (Kim Basinger) is kidnapped and manages to click the wires on a smashed phone to place a call. She reaches beach slacker Ryan (Chris Evans) and manages to convince him that she's telling the truth and to get help. What ensues is a mad rush through downtown Los Angeles as Ryan tries desperately to assist her. The DVD has some good features on it (interviews, scene selection, etc.), and the movie overall was well made. If you are into this sort of movie, I recommend it. You will not be disappointed in the least bit.

Letter alleges captain diverted plane because family complained about in-flight film
By Mike Krumboltz | The Sideshow – 17 hrs ago.

A family traveling from Denver to Baltimore on United claims that their flight was diverted by the captain because the parents requested that the in-flight movie, "Alex Cross," be turned off.

The parents, thus far unnamed, wrote a letter to The Atlantic about the incident. According to the letter, after the flight took off, the flight crew lowered the TV screens and began playing the PG-13-rated cop thriller starring Tyler Perry.

The parents, whose children are 4 and 8, believed the film to be too violent for their kids. "Alarmed by the opening scenes, we asked two flight attendants if they could turn off the monitor; both claimed it was not possible" and would be a nuisance to the people behind them.

At this point, according to the letter, the people behind the parents spoke up and said it would be fine with them if the movie screen was closed. "Both flight attendants, and later the purser, claimed that they have no authority or ability to change or turn off the movie. The purser did, however, agree with us, as did many more of the passengers around us, that it is patently inappropriate to expose children to such content."

The parents wrote that throughout the discussion, no voices were raised and everyone was civil and polite. The parents apparently accepted that the movie was going to be shown. They attempted to distract their kids from the "horrific scenes on the movie screens," they wrote.

Which makes what happened next so strange. "More than an hour later the captain [name withheld for now] announced that due to 'security concerns,' our flight was being diverted to Chicago's ORD," the letter continued. Little did the parents know that they were the apparent cause for the diversion.

Upon landing in the Windy City, a police officer boarded the plane and allegedly asked the family to gather their things to disembark. The parents wrote:

The captain, apparently, felt that our complaint constituted grave danger to the aircraft, crew and the other passengers, and that this danger justified inconveniencing his crew, a few of whom "timed out" during the diversion, and a full plane of your customers, causing dozens of them to miss their connections, wasting time, precious jet fuel, and adding to United's carbon footprint. Not to mention unnecessarily involving several of Chicago's finest, two Border Protection officers and several United and ORD managers, and an FBI agent, who all met us at the gate. After we were interviewed (for less than 5 minutes), our identities and backgrounds checked, we were booked on the next flight to BWI, and had to linger in the terminal for hours with our exhausted and terrified little boys.

The Atlantic reached out to United's PR team for a response. Spokesperson Charles Hobart responded:

United flight 638 from Denver to Baltimore diverted to Chicago O'Hare after the crew reported a disturbance involving a passenger. The flight landed without incident and the customers were removed from the flight. We reaccommodated the customers on the next flight to Baltimore and have since conducted a full review of our inflight entertainment.

The parents are seeking an explanation for what they believe was a vindictive act on the part of the captain, as well as the airline's decision to show violent films around children.

Jonathan Knight/Harrison Ford

Post by yawares »

Dear Members,

I watched NEW KIDS ON THE BLOCK with my daughter on MTV years ago, we loved them, they were so cute/talented/nice dancers.

I know that behind the rock stars shows/movie business there are so much pain..that's why they have to do drugs to get high/to take the edge off, in order to perform well in front of massive public..as years go by, they become addicted to drugs. They do live glamorous life but also very dangerous life. I remember posting a dhammapada story THE CRYING ENTERTAINER:

Jonathan Knight 'sorry' for walking off stage during NKOTB show
[By Us Weekly]

Jonathan Knight at a fan meet and greet on April 2 in New York City.
Image

Jonathan Knight was not quite ready to face the music at iHeartRadio's New Kids on the Block concert in New York City earlier this week. Halfway through the April 4 show, the singer -- who has admitted in the past to suffering social anxiety -- walked off stage alone, leaving his bandmates to continue without him. Afterward, he took to his Twitter account to apologize for the sudden departure, writing simply, "I'm sorry..."

Footage of the incident shows that Knight, 44, was visibly uncomfortable from the very beginning of the hourlong set. While his fellow New Kids -- Jordan Knight, 42, Joey McIntyre, 40, Donnie Wahlberg, 43, and Danny Wood, 43 -- bounced around the stage energetically and engaged with the audience, Knight hung back by himself. At one point, he appeared to be looking at his cellphone in the middle of a song. Then, a little more than 25 minutes into the concert, the group introduced a ballad, "Survive You," from their new album, 10. Knight was supposed to do a solo, but when it came time for him to sing, he couldn't get the words out.

"Jon, these people paid thousands of dollars for these tickets. For one reason. They heard that you're singing on this record," Wahlberg joked, putting a supportive arm around his bandmate.

Knight laughed uncomfortably, then walked offstage shaking his head as the remaining four continued the song. The band told their fans (known as Blockheads, or BHs) that he would return -- but he didn't, despite repeated chants from the crowd. (Toward the end of the evening, McIntyre quipped that he was locked in the bathroom.)

Fans were understandably concerned. Twelve years ago, in an emotional interview with Oprah Winfrey, Knight confessed that debilitating panic attacks led him to become something of a recluse in the 1990s. "The whole New Kids thing was crazy. The more it grew, the more I just felt like I was trapped. I just always had this feeling inside me of always being nervous and afraid of situations," he explained.

 The right stuff : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tbIEwIwYz-c

"From 1994 to 1997, I did nothing," he told Winfrey of how he coped. "I slept and slept and slept. If I was awake, I had to deal with things, I had to do things. In order to avoid that, I would just stay in bed. You go through the whole thing, too, like 'I'm weird or I'm strange,' and it just makes your whole self shrink down even more."

In any case, Knight appeared to be feeling better on Friday, April 5, when he performed "We Own Tonight" with the group on the TODAY show. Afterward, the band went online to reassure concertgoers that he was okay. "Not 2 worry BHs, all is well w Jon!" a tweet on the NKOTB account read. "It was a crazy album release week & we are all on a plane to Napa & look fwd to a grt show this weekend!"

Re: I Love Exotic Gem Rings !!

Post by yawares »

Dear Members,

This manic Monday, I proudly present 2 beautiful gems to you all:

Topaz birthstone of November.

Image

Image

Topaz comes in many colors, including clear, brown, yellow, orange, red, pink and blue. The blue topaz, with a pale to medium blue color created by irradiation, can be found in very large sizes at affordable prices. The fine golden-yellow variety, known as Imperial Topaz, is relatively scarce. Topaz colors are rarely vivid. The most common color is yellow with a red tint; the most valuable is pink to reddish. The coloring agents are iron and chromium.

The name topaz is most probably derived from an island in the Red Sea, "Topazos", today called Zabargad, the ancient source of peridot. In former times all golden-brown and sometimes also green gemstones were called topaz, which caused sufficient confusion such that today real topaz is referred to as precious topaz.

Topaz is the birthstone for those who are born in the month of November.

Blue topaz: Natural blue topaz is rare. Found in all major deposits and also in England (Cornwall), Northern Ireland and Scotland. Most of the blue topazes are enhanced colorless topaz gemstone (see common treatment)

Champagne topaz: One of the very few naturally colored varieties of topaz in a light to medium shade of brown, primarily found in Mexico.

Imperial topaz: The most sought after of all natural topaz. Its rich golden color is generally not enhanced by any kind of treatment. The most important deposit was found in Minas Gerais, Brazil.

Pink topaz: A natural pink topaz is very rare and costly. The vast majority of pink topazes are heat-treated yellow stones that turn pink. The most valuable variety of topaz can be found in Brazil, Pakistan and Russia.
-------------------------

Alexandrite [Alexandrite is the modern June birthstone.]

Image

http://images.search.yahoo.com/search/i ... gac&sado=1

Alexandrite is one of the rarest of all colored gemstones and is famed for its color change from green in daylight to red under incandescent light. Fine faceted alexandrite over 1 carat is more valuable than sapphire, ruby or emerald.

Alexandrite is a strongly pleochroic gem that will exhibit emerald green, red and orange-yellow colors and tend to change color in artificial light compared to daylight. The color change from red to green is due to strong absorption of light in the yellow and blue portions of the spectrum. Typically, alexandrite has an emerald-green color in daylight but exhibits a raspberry-red color in incandescent light.

According to a popular but probably apocryphal story, alexandrite was discovered by the Finnish mineralogist Nils Gustaf Nordenskjold, (1792 -1866) on the tsarevitch Alexander's sixteenth birthday on April 17, 1834 and named alexandrite in honor of the future Tsar Alexander II of Russia. It is apparently true that alexandrite was first identified (but not discovered) by Nordenskjold, but likely some years earlier, around 1831. It was Count Lev Alekseevich Perovskii (1792-1856) who named the gem alexandrite.

Alexandrite is very rare because of its chemical composition. While it is a form of chrysoberyl, it has an extra trace elemement in addition to iron and titatnium. It is the presence of chromium that gives it the emerald-green hue in daylight. Alexandrite exhbiting chatoyancy or the cat's eye effect is known, but very rare.

The original source of alexandrite in the Ural mountains in Russia has been worked out. An important alexandrite deposit was found in 1987 in Minas Gerais in Brazil, and other deposits are found in Burma, Madagascar, Sri Lanka and Tanzania.

Alexandrite is rarely found in larger sizes. The largest cut alexandrite weighs 66 carats and is in the Smithsonian Institution in Washington, D.C.

Elephant Attacks Car In South Africa /JATAKA

Post by yawares »

Dear Members,

This morning..I read this news:

Image

Elephant Attacks Car In South Africa
[By CHRISTOPHER TORCHIA]

JOHANNESBURG -- An elephant overturned a vehicle carrying two tourists, injuring both, on Monday, said South African officials.

The tourists are of "Chinese origin," according to a statement from Kruger National Park. One of the tourists said he was from Hong Kong, according to a hospital official.

An elephant in the park attacked the vehicle on a road at 6:30 a.m. Monday, and a medical team in a helicopter rushed to help the injured male driver, said the statement. He was taken to Clinix Phalaborwa Private Hospital, near the park.

An official at the hospital said the man was in critical condition with multiple rib fractures, and that his female companion was also being treated there for a pelvis fracture. He said officials planned to transfer the pair to a hospital in the Pretoria area.

The official spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to speak to the media.

It is unclear why the elephant became aggressive, said the park spokesman William Mabasa. He is appealing to the public to be alert in Kruger park and try not to get too close if they see an elephant approaching on the road.

The vast Kruger park lies in South Africa's northeast, next to Zimbabwe and Mozambique.

****************And suddenly..I think of this JATAKA*******************

MITTĀMITTA-JĀTAKA: The Kind Ascetic And His Wicked Pet
[Translated from the Pali by Dr.C.B.Varma]

This story the Master told whilst dwelling at Sāvatthi, about a certain Brother.

One day the brothers were all together talking about it in the Hall of Truth. "Friend, young Brother
felt so confident of his teacher's friendship, that he took a piece of cloth, and made it into a shoe-bag. Then the teacher asked him what confidence there was between them, flew into a passion, jumped up, and gave him a blow." The Master came in, and asked them what they were talking of as they sat there together. They told him. Then he said, "This is not the first time, Brothers, that this man has disappointed the confidence of his fellow. He did the same before." And then he told an old-world tale.

********
Once upon a time, when Brahmadatta was king of Benares, the Bodhisatta was born as a brahmin's son in the realm of Kāsi. When he came of age, he renounced the world; he caused to grow in him the Supernatural Faculties and the Attainments, and took up his abode in the region of Himalaya with a band of disciples. One of this band of ascetics disobeyed the voice of the Bodhisatta, and kept a young elephant which had lost its mother. This creature by and by grew big, then killed its master and made off into the forest. The ascetics did his obsequies; and then, coming about the Bodhisatta, they put this question to him.

"Sir, how may we know whether one is a friend or an enemy?"

This the Bodhisatta declared to them in the following stanzas:--

"He smiles not when he sees him, no welcome will he show,
He will not turn his eyes that way, and answers him with No.

"These are the marks and tokens by which your foe you see:
These if a wise man sees and hears he knows his enemy."

In these words the Bodhisatta declared the marks of friend and foe. Thereafter he cultivated the Excellences, and entered the heaven of Brahma.

------
When the Master had ended this discourse, he identified the Birth:--"The Brother in question was he who kept the pet elephant, his teacher was the elephant, the Buddha's followers were then the band of hermits, and I myself was their chief."

Re: Bon Jovi's Daughter/Billy Bathgate*****

Post by yawares »

Dear Members,

This Saturday..Yawares-Theatre proudly presents BILLY BATHGATE Starring: Dustin Hoffman, Nicole Kidman, Bruce Willis and Loren Dean.

Image

This is the Dutch Schultz story as seen by Billy Bathgate a wanna be gangster. A surprisingly good tale lifted up by its cast & written screen play. Look for Bruce Willis in a great supporting role at the start of the movie.

Dustin Hoffman turns in another stellar performance as Dutch Schultz. He is approaching his unforeseen fall from grace & it's this Dutch that Billie Bathgate's illusions of gang life are measured by & eventually shattered by. Loren Dean as Billy plays his part perfectly sometimes naive, sometimes streetwise. Dutch's girl friend is played by the ever beautiful Nicole Kidman who is married but tells Billy in relation to her being with Dutch "No, I'm not his gal. He's my gangster." She plays it that way too & gets a 5 star & you know why for.

When the law comes after Dutch with "Tax" charges he is momentarily able to defend himself but as other charges are filed he decides to remove the attorney's causing all the problems right up to the U. S. attorney that started it all. Dutch's superiors which he don't recognize as his superior's no more have to reign in their mad dog & do so.

This movie is always told through the eyes of Billie & his gangland tutor played by Steven Hill of Law & Order fame, just one fine acting job. Some claim Hoffman is so powerful here he overshadows the rest of the cast but I think that's shallow-sighted. Dutch Schultz was a overpowering man & only those that were able to subjugate themselves in his presence survived for long. That makes the other portrayals dead accurate & earns those actors & actresses their own deserved praise for this show.

************
Love this movie
