A bit unbalanced and extreme. I wonder if this was a cultic group of "Buddhist"? There will always be other religions... o.Ocooran wrote:Hello all

There's a lot of extremism in Sri Lanka on both sides of the coin, it's been that way for a very long time, and clearly - is in no hurry to moderate.

Unfortunately, self immolation is nothing new in Buddhism.cooran wrote:Hello all

Yes - I had heard of Mahayana and Vajrayana practitioners and monks self-immolating before - but never Theravada Bhikkhus.
I think it shows wrong view - delusion.

Agree. Deluded Theravada practitioners are different; they don't burn themselves, they tend to burn the mosque.cooran wrote:Yes - I had heard of Mahayana and Vajrayana practitioners and monks self-immolating before - but never Theravada Bhikkhus.

I find it absolutely fascinating that these monks are self immolating in a struggle to maintain the status quo. It is a fundamental flaw in their thinking as the most basic of the Buddha's teachings was: change is inevitable. And yet these monks refute that core understanding of samsura.
