Discerning friction at my finger tips,
I know the pleasure of our touch will go
astray, to wend its way until it slips
from out between our skins, as heat does blow
to atmosphere from tea, while melting snow
grows warm to meet the same degree as it.
From this to this we go and grieve the flow
of life -- and strain our minds so lacking wit.
But minds need not be born as pain, but sit
as freed convict well fed by godly guards.
Asura kings need only see it’s fit
to lay aside their greed. It’s not so hard,
escaping painful agitation here:
just cease to grasp all feelings passing near.

Bright moon
Escaping
from within silver clouds

Sat beneath the tree
He let go of all false views
Arising Buddha
Here where a thousand
captains swore grand conquest
Tall grasses their monument.

Greetings,

Here is a collection of poems I wrote during my stay at Wat Buddha Dhamma and Santi Forest Monastery in Australia. The collection is titled 'Message in the Bottle'. You can download it for free as a PDF file from here:

THINKING

What is the point of thinking
what others think
about you?
I am my own teacher
questioning myself.
I have to take responsibility
of my own life.

I AM GETTING OLDER

Green pieces of glass
from a broken Sprite bottle
scattered around a flat rock
like pearls from a broken necklace.

The same story everywhere
around the world
from the 1980's to the present.
Nothing has changed.

So Many Days

There is always another day,
Faith in this falsehood tests one’s fate.
What if I were to pass away tomorrow?
With something always left for the morrow;
would the next life be one of sorrow?

Perhaps my compassion surpasses my hate,
but when passion calls, I take the bait.
If death came upon me this day,
ever so dearly should I pay,
for so many years selfish play.

Ignorant, deluded, a sorry state,
the moment of death does not come late.
Should my last breath be this hour,
too long have I lived so sweet, so sour,
undoubtedly, I would do naught but cower,

A moment, a snap, over and done,
it all ends, this worldly fun.
There is an escape from this dangerous lure,
for each defilement, I must practice its cure,
so that I might end my days pure.

I suck at poetry but:

Titans

From the great rift
Lurch titans
Awful, nascent novelties
That boom their presence
and turn their back upon time.

And the enmired are trampled underfoot.

And the maladapt are swallowed.

And the youth make idols of them,
worship them,
praise them
for their destruction of the past.

BACK IN THE DAY

For days on end
I used to spend my time
doing absolutely nothing.
It is that simple.

Wonderful thread and wonderful poems to find just browsing :) Poetry has been a wonderful way to explore the Dhamma.
my hand is that of an old man
already the flesh shrinks away.

I have a pile of ashes for a hand
yet they are well hidden
red and smooth and moving.

a corpse writes these lines
but not one thing to worry about.

the ash hand and the supple one
are just this close.
that old forest path
closed off on both ends

there was a cat in there
mud flesh on stick bones
until he was just mud and sticks

i saw him every single time

and one day
he was wild green briars
and the forest path
was closed off on both ends

I have trouble writing poetry that isn't dark. Something I must work on.

The True Witness of Morning

It is known that clenching

clogs the arteries

of our irrationality’s ward.

/

Deposit the king’s servants

in their holsters.

Manipulative puppeteers.

/

When you rise

you must fall;

shame to the fragility of the neck.

/

But when you excavate

downwards,

you may suffocate.

/

Sometimes it’s safer to swim through the mountains.

You’re leaving nothing behind.

You can follow me at http://thedukeanthology.tumblr.com/ for more!
I'd really appreciate more followers! Thanks! :D

lying in wait,
mindful, alert, clearly comprehending.
Aware within, aware without,
resting on the breath.
Like night-time creatures,
thoughts, memories, fantasies,
try to creep in.
Fast! Like a hunter,
or a cobra,
I strike,
wiping away the dust of the world.
In calm repose, I rest
in the clear moonlight
of the breath.

My shield is alertness,

I wear impenetrable armour

I wound none, and
am wounded neither.
Boots left and right, of energy
and patience, trampling underfoot
greed and hatred.
Greaves of peace and persistence,
gloves of rapture and serenity.
My chestplate is equanimity,
the protection
of perfect composure.
Atop my helmet, the eye

A battle fought by those still restless
some do have faith others are faithless
Concerned am i remaining reckless,
closer to death further from Deathless

Both day and night,
across the sea
Where Dhamma is
There's light to see
***
It is as awesome as they say
We now should hurry on our way
Beyond warm baths and tasty drinks
Above cheap jokes and fleeting kicks
Away from wemen we should steer
And not turn back the end is near

Life is a terminal illness
This body, a tumour
Remembering death
keeping the body in mind
