Hello everyone,
I'm looking for both commentary and story based on the Dhammapada Sarvāstivādin or/and Dharmaguptaka (translated in english).
The purpose is to compare the stories between the early schools. If you know where I can find it.
Thanks you

Re: Dhammapada Story : early schools
Hi Romano,
The site: http://suttacentral.net/ lists parallels of the various Nikayas. Unfortunately, I don't see anything there about Dhammapada parallels at http://suttacentral.net/kn but it may be that those have not been classified on that site yet, since it's clear that other versions exist: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dhammapada http://www.buddhanet.net/e-learning/dha ... /fdd24.htm

I'm not sure that there are any existing commentaries other than the Pāli. An overview of the extant versions of Dhammapada texts is given by Ven. Ānandajoti here: A Study of the Dhammapada Collection.Romano wrote:I'm looking for both commentary and story based on the Dhammapada Sarvāstivādin or/and Dharmaguptaka (translated in english).

Here's a multilingual presentation of the Udānavarga (the English translation by William Woodville Rockhill is from the 1880s and is therefore quite dated).
Here's Gareth Sparham's translation of The Tibetan Dhammapada.
Here's Ven. Dhammajoti's translation of The Chinese Version of the Dhammapada.
Here's John Brough's study of The Gāndhārī Dharmapada.

There is some extensive discussion about Dhammapada versions in the comments to this blog entry:

Thanks Mike
Actually, it's me who raised the issue to Venerable Sujato.

I suspected that. It's useful for those who might be interested in the issue, and might try to answer your question to have that information, so they don't have to repeat what Ven Sujato wrote.

I agree with you. Apologies, for not having shared with the forum the answer of Venerable Sujato. It's useful for those who might be interested in the issue, and might try to answer your question to have that information, so they don't have to repeat what Ven Sujato wrote.
