Theravada water rite?

Postby Kabouterke » Tue Jul 23, 2013 7:39 pm

Hello there everyone. I have been regularly going to a "normal" (ie non-Forest tradition) Thai temple in the past few weeks. One thing I see a lot of people do is this little water ritual, where the monk chants something and at a certain point all the members in a family put their hands on a little tiny bottle of water and then pour it out together and then some of them drink it. Does anybody know what I am talking about? What's it called? Significance? How often is it done?
