Need help with my studies

Postby Still Searching » Fri Sep 20, 2013 12:32 am

I'm trying very hard to follow the five precepts and I read about the four noble truths.
I wish to know more about Theravada.
My goal is to achieve enlightenment and reach nirvana.
I'm doing well so far with the meditation and the five precepts but as my username says, I'm "Still Searching".

Hello, Still Searching,

You might wanna have a look à this topic about introductory books to Theravada:
http://www.dhammawheel.com/viewtopic.php?f=24&t=148

There are also many Theravadan Dhamma Talks on Youtube. For example, the Buddhist Society of Western Australia has a lot of them (many of them are from Ajahn Brahm):

You want help with your studies, and you're still searching - could you specify a little bit what exactly it is you are searching?

Just an idea: http://readingfaithfully.org/

Hi, Leon

I just mean I wish to know more about Buddhism and the Buddha himself.
I've watched many documentaries about the Buddha or Buddhism, I'm practicing my meditation and slowly getting better, I've read about the Four Noble Truths and learning from them and I'm trying very hard to stick with the Five Precepts.

The letting go of attachment is one problem I'm struggling with.

I wish to seek enlightenment and achieve nirvana but I know it's never easy and even some monks themselves are still struggling to accomplish their goal.

I'm training very hard, I'm trying not to over do it though as that'll make it more difficult.

It might sound shocking to some as I am handicapped and have some problems in my life but I want to become a monk.

I would even give up my luxury home for such spirituality and education and not as an act of selfishness to gain free happiness but to reunite with harmony and be free, I wish to accomplish my goal for good.

But I feel like there is still a lot I need to learn.
