Hi Folks!
Would appreciate suggestions for good books for our 10-year-old boy. He is slightly Aspergers, I guess, in that he loves structure and knowing what's ahead and doesn't have heaps of insight into how feelings (either his own or other people's) work. I think it would be great for him to read stories that explore these themes.
He is bright and thoughtful, no trouble at school or with friends, generally happy and busy (in mind and deed), loves animals and pretty gentle with his siblings, but kind of jittery and easily disturbed and annoyed.
Here he (Gabriel) is enjoying a gelato yesterday.
Appreciate all the suggestions!

Powers of Ten made a pretty strong impression on me when I was younger and it's still awesome. There's a website too. 10 years old may be a bit young but you'd be the judge of that.

Greetings Dan,
Whether or not it would achieve your intended outcome, I think he'd like the Diary Of A Wimpy Kid books.
Metta,
Retro.

Hi Dan,
There are some extracts and reviews, as well as videos and interviews connected with books for 8 -12 year olds on this website, which might be worth checking out:

"The Lord of the Rings" series.
Lots of drama, but with a good focus on the importance of courage, determination and friendship.

Thank you very much for fantastic suggestions, Folks! Just sent him a video with Powers or Ten and the brain story from The Guardian site (he loves email). Will check out other reviews and the good reads site. He's read the Wimpy Kid books I think, as well as the first 3 Harry Potter books. Not sure if he is up to The Lord of the Rings - I think most of the current batch of kids would find it too slow moving while the movies are waay too scary for this age.
Lots to check out!

The Hobbit, but not The Lord of the Ring (It is better for mid to late teens).
If you don't mind used books The Clearing by Alan Arkin has some progressive ideas in it and like the Hobbit has funny moments.
I heard Buddha for Bedtime can be enjoyed by all age groups. I just bought one for someone (used-out of print I think at the moment) I plan on buying one for myself after the holidays.
