Info on Wat Dtao Dum - Ajahn Siripanno

Post by suriyopama »

Dear all,

I would like to know if some of you have been at Wat Dtao Dum, and if Ajahn Siripanno can be met there.

I have located Wat Dtao Dum on Google maps, in Sai Yoi National Park, close the Burma border:

It is embedded into the forest, perhaps only accessible with the appropriate vehicle. I could go to Kanchanaburi with my car, but I don´t know the most convenient way to go from there to the forest monastery.

Thank You

I found that map here:

I've found more information.

If I want to go there, I will have to make a friend in some Off-Road Four-Wheel Driver Club. That is a real forest! :D

Anyway, I will try to use my radar to find if Ajahn Siripanno ever comes to Bangkok.

A recent WPN Publication, "Forest Path" had a chapter dedicated to Wat Dtao Dam. It seems a group of supporters bring in food regularly which is then cooked by a local workers at the monastery. There is no alms round as there are no villages nearby. The closest village is called Tung Ma Sa Yo. The monks from WPN usually come on tudong to this monastery during the hot season (April?), otherwise just a few monks would be here.

Thank you for the information on the document.

That is a very interesting story. Those monks are doing a great job protecting the land! They are the protecting angels of that forest. :namaste:

The access to this place is not easy and takes several hours with off-road vehicle only, in the rainy season sometimes very difficult. They have a satellite phone but it is only used for important phone calls and emergencies.

I came to know more about Ajahn Siripanno during my stay in WPN last year November. Totally didn't expect him to be there.

A laywoman asked if there is a way to catch Ajahn, or to know his whereabout. The replied given was that there is no way to know where he will be.

As far as I know, Ajahn told me that he is likely to be in WPN till February this year, and occasional trip back and forth Kanchanaburi. He didn't give a definite answer, that I must remind you.

I understand your difficulty, Siddhi. One option I can think for you is to go to WPN, talk to the monks there about the matter, and hopefully the monks there will be able to help you. Though I must say that, it is not guaranteed that they will do something for you. And if WPN is too far from where you are living now, I suggest to just go to WPN and show your sincerity in delivery the matter.

Good luck.
