I was thinking about buying this 11'' Buddha statue from Amazon for $23 (£14). What do you think? Or do you know of a nicer one I could purchase?

How about the Spring Temple Buddha?
It is appropriate that the tallest statue in the world should be of the greatest man in the world!
But seriously, I got mine off amazon and I see no reason to ever get another unless it's damaged or I lose it for some untoward reason.

I was thinking perhaps getting something a little smaller?
Maybe "statue" was the wrong word.
I'l continue looking through Amazon, and check out Lotus Sculpture.
Thank yous.

Looks fine to me. As does this one: http://www.amazon.com/Buddha-Earth-Touc ... d_sim_hg_3mettafuture wrote:I was thinking about buying this 11'' Buddha statue from Amazon for $23 (£14). What do you think? Or do you know of a nicer one I could purchase?
They look to me like reasonable reproductions of Thai-Theravada style statues (some statues sold in the West look quite ugly to me...).

I was looking at that one, but it's $43. It's really beautiful though. I'd have to think about it.mikenz66 wrote:Looks fine to me. Re: Where do you buy your Buddha statues?
I looked at that one yesterday and was turned off by the number of them being sold "used" that had "minor cosmetic damage" to the top or sides... it suggested some manner of QC issue to me.mettafuture wrote:I was looking at that one, but it's $43. I ordered this one instead, in case you're curious.
I thought about the silver/black one too, but my shrine area is somewhat poorly lit and the very dark colored one I have now is difficult to see, and I think I just prefer the lighter colors anyway.
I have no qualms with purchasing things like this from Amazon... ultimately they are just things. In this case, it was on a gift card I received for Christmas (on which I also purchased this book).
Please be well, friend.

Isn't that of Mahayana's Vairocana, and not of the historical Buddha?Mkoll wrote:How about the Spring Temple Buddha?

Re: Where do you buy your Buddha statues?
Guess so. However, we don't know what the historical Buddha looked like (or any Buddha) so all statues are just guesses. The statue I have may be of some Mahayana Buddha but it's good enough for me.cookiemonster wrote:Isn't that of Mahayana's Vairocana, and not of the historical Buddha?Mkoll wrote:How about the Spring Temple Buddha?

I confess i purchase mine wherever I see one that appeals to me.
providing of course, it is not beyond my pocket contents.
I once carved my own at school, out of a breezeblock. My art teacher thought it was a camping boy scout.
