You guys should look up the very comprehensive, exhaustive and detailed Pew Global Religious Landscape study

You can check out the page devoted to Buddhism on the study as well as the comprehensive and interactive chart that gives the religious population breakdown of every nation in both number and percentage terms...I used that chart and also to break down Buddhism according to three main schools: Theravada,Mahayana,Vajrayana

The top 17 Buddhist countries hold 475 Million of 488 Million Global Buddhists

Okay Theravada: 135,070,000---Thailand,Burma,Sri Lanka,Cambodia,Laos---from Pew Global

Vajrayana:

Ladakh----119236
Nepal----2845510
Bhutan----557053
Mongolia-1548282
Tibet----2786010 92.8% Tibetan 3,002,166*
Yunnan----137899 0.3% Tibetan 45,966,239*
Sichuan--1206273 1.5% Tibetan 80,418,200*
Gansu-----511505 2.0% Tibetan 25,575,254*
Qinghai--1181612 21.0% Tibetan 5,626,722*
Sikkim----171572
AP--------179739
HP--------146729 2.14% Buddhist

11,391,420----11 Million Tantric Buddhists 2% (Vajrayana)
135 Million Theravada Buddhists 28%
342 Million Mahayana Buddhists 70%

* Total Population of the Region

700,000 Western Buddhist converts in USA (should be mainly Theravada and Tibetan Vajrayana with perhaps a smattering of Mahayana Zen)

Okay now Resources:

http://www.pewforum.org/2012/12/18/glob ... -buddhist/
http://features.pewforum.org/grl/population-number.php

and also Wikipedia pages on each Chinese Province surrounding Tibetan Autnomous Region

How do you guys like my small research?

Thank you.
He turns his mind away from those phenomena, and having done so, inclines his mind to the property of deathlessness: 'This is peace, this is exquisite — the resolution of all fabrications; the relinquishment of all acquisitions; the ending of craving; dispassion; cessation; Unbinding.'
(Jhana Sutta - Thanissaro Bhikkhu translation)

Thanks.

North America has almost three times as many Buddhists as all of Europe even though Europe has more than twice as many people. :juggling:

The statistics for Buddhists in China can vary over a wide range as many people have some loose affiliation to the religion. I've seen numbers of 20% to 50% of its 1.3 billion counted as Buddhists

Thanks for the maps, but I've got reservations about the "Atlas of Faiths". It is wrong as regards Australia and omits New Zealand completely. That's just the part of the planet I know best but it makes me doubt the rest.
