Ajahn, Bhante, Ayasma, Ayya ... or just dude?

found this to be quite interesting... but in the end it's just conventions :)

Get the wanting out of waiting

What does womanhood matter at all, when the mind is concentrated well, when knowledge flows on steadily as one sees correctly into Dhamma. One to whom it might occur, ‘I am a woman’ or ‘I am a man’ or ‘I’m anything at all’ is fit for Mara to address. – SN 5.2

If they take what's yours, tell yourself that you're making it a gift.
Otherwise there will be no end to the animosity. - Ajahn Fuang Jotiko

Interesting reading. Thanks.
"If beings knew, as I know, the results of giving & sharing, they would not eat without having given, nor would the stain of miserliness overcome their minds. Even if it were their last bite, their last mouthful, they would not eat without having shared."

I wonder how often monks in the US get called "dude" or "pal", and how often in the UK get called "mate", "bloke" or "fella" :D

The postman hands us the letters saying "Cheers mate". (Except for one special delivery driver who said he was Tamil and would not give me the parcel until he made it clear what he thought about all Buddhists.)

I guess one could understand that the postman just said it out of habit, but the Tamil driver... ha ha! Was it worse than the usual flak you get from people who have a bone to pick with Buddhists?

It was more about politics in Sri Lanka (he would not accept that we don't have anything to do with it). Negative comments from locals are rather rare in the south of England, but apparently get more frequent as you go up north...

Hi Gavesako I am from the north of England and most northerners consider southerners
to be rude and most southerners think northerners still use gas light and raise ferrets.

Please be assured a warm welcome and a cup of tea awaits any weary traveller who
crosses the north south divide. :hello:

Kind Regards Paul.

That is great to hear. (BTW, we also drink Yorkshire Tea here in the south.)
