The Fortune Cookie Challenge

Post by Jechbi »

This post from our Dhamma friend Tilt is the inspiration for a forum game.

That strikes me as something that really ought to be in a fortune cookie. So I was thinking, why not have a place where we can share sayings that are (or ought to be) in fortune cookies?

And to make it interesting, maybe this could be a blend of fake fortune-cookie slogans (like the one above), and real ones. So offer one up, but don't say if you made it up or if you actually found it in a cookie. The next poster has to be the judge: "Made up" or "real." Then offer up another, to keep the challenge going.

Here's one to get us going:
The mightiest oak in the forest is just a little nut that held its ground.
Rain soddens what is kept wrapped up,
But never soddens what is open;
Uncover, then, what is concealed,
Lest it be soddened by the rain.

I think that the above saying is not from a fortune cookie.

Here's mine. Just for fun I made the cookie image.
Real, or made up?

I prefer the fortune cookies with bad english grammar. I have one in my wallet that says: Your luck has been completely changes today. I've also seen one before that said Let a car cut in front of you today. However, I wasn't smart enough to save it!

Here's one:

"It wasn't Chicken".

True fortune cookie - or false?

I am sooooo happy - How on earth could I be otherwise?! :D

"A kiss that lasts forever is a strange gift."

(A graffito I saw on a men's room wall ... but I'd love to find it in a fortune cookie.)

Aw, no one guessed at mine and one is made up!

I think Fede's is real. It would be disturbing to find, too!

At least it didn’t say Congratulations! You’ve just received the gift that keeps on giving. Who knows what kind of stuff we pick up from public restrooms! :shock:

Ok, that's a horrible pix. But it's real. Really!

Here are my guesses:

Ideas are like children ... real.

Destiny is a bridge ... you made that up.

Chicken ... not!

How about this, made up or real?
You will be hit by a truck.
Rain soddens what is kept wrapped up,
But never soddens what is open;
Uncover, then, what is concealed,
Lest it be soddened by the rain.
