Hello Dhamma Wheel community,

my name is Steve and I am a 31 year old German. Recently discovered Dhamma Wheel and read some of your threads by different authors. Your discussions seem to me to be serious and to the point. I am signing up to deepen my understanding of the Dhamma through through inquiry and inspiration. And maybe I can answer a question or two myself. In this sense, I am also trying to tap into the energy and knowledge of a Sangha - even if it is a virtual one.

I have so far primarily read Suttas, various commentaries, and a lot of general Theravada literature. However, my approach to the Teachings is not at all scholastic or dogmatic, neither in reading nor in practice. For example, I am also highly interested in the Zen tradition and recently spent a couple of days in a Kyoto Rinzai Zen temple. A few weeks later, I stayed with a Shingon monk in his Koyasan temple. The important thing for me is that I sense the Buddha. Which can be the case everywhere, at any point in time, with any kind of event or person.

Every 'Serious and to the point' forum must have its Village idiot.

The Village Idiot is ignorant on most matters, and merely contributes to discussions from a standpoint of their own meagre experience and weak comprehension, although occasionally, these snippets can be relatively poignant at best or mildly entertaining at worst.
The village idiot also refuses to take life too seriously - often a commendable trait, but occasionally - idiotic.

I pride myself in being this Forum's Village Idiot.
people on here tolerate me with loving kindness, patience and good humour, which I find a blessing, and for which I am grateful.
But I do find humour to be an asset in most cases!

To be too serious can be just as self-limiting as being too humorous.
