Ayya Dipa (1955-2014)

Post by DNS »

Dhamma Wheel member and bhikkhuni, Ayya Dipa passed away on July 18, 2014. I heard from another member here and was waiting for a link to post before making this announcement. She was a nun at Mahapajapati Monastery in Southern California. I had the pleasure of meeting her and (abbess) Ayya Gunasiri a few years ago.

So sad. I didn't get the chance to meet her, although came close a couple times. A friend of mine spoke highly of her.
Therein what are 'six (types of) disrespect'? One dwells without respect, without deference for the Teacher; one dwells without respect, without deference for the Teaching; one dwells without respect, without deference for the Order; one dwells without respect, without deference for the precepts; one dwells without respect, without deference for heedfulness; one dwells without respect, without deference for hospitality. These are six (types of) disrespect.

I did not know her, but I applaud her efforts and commitment to the Dharma and hope that if not nibbana, her efforts propel into the most favorable conditions for it :buddha1: .

"He, the Blessed One, is indeed the Noble Lord, the Perfectly Enlightened One;
He is impeccable in conduct and understanding, the Serene One, the Knower of the Worlds;
He trains perfectly those who wish to be trained; he is Teacher of gods and men; he is Awake and Holy. "

"The Dhamma is well-expounded by the Blessed One,
Apparent here and now, timeless, encouraging investigation,
Leading to liberation, to be experienced individually by the wise. "

My merits I dedicate to Venerable Dipa. May she be liberated.

“No lists of things to be done. The day providential to itself. The hour. There is no later. This is later. All things of grace and beauty such that one holds them to one's heart have a common provenance in pain. Their birth in grief and ashes.”
- Cormac McCarthy, The Road

Learn this from the waters:
in mountain clefts and chasms,
loud gush the streamlets,
but great rivers flow silently.
