As Dhamma Wheel grows, and in light of the diversity of members and the inevitable differences that can crop up from time to time, Dhamma Wheel may wish to have a designated ombudsman who watches out for member interests. Theoretically, all mods and admins would fullfill this function, but as a matter of practicality, other considerations might be too distracting at times to do justice to this important function. Large, quality publications have found it very effective to designate one editor as the reader ombudsman, and in my opinion, that concept translates well to a quality Internet discussion board such as Dhamma Wheel. Particularly since this board is predicated on the value of member posts.
The ombudsman could be part of the mod/admin team, but also could have a degree of independence. This individual could be a specialist in helping members navigate TOS more effectively, helping members understand decisions that are made, resolving disputes, being the lightning rod for criticism, stepping in when things get hot and heavy, stuff like that. The ombudsman would be the members' advocate.
Just a thought. Thanks for your efforts. This is a very fine place as it is.
