A sapling does not immedietly become a great Bodhi tree, it's a gradual process. But with every passing day, week and year that sapling grows just a little bit higher. So long as conditions persist, it will one day become that great Bodhi tree.
Good for us to see the beauty of the sapling though, and not wish too hard for it to be different from what it is right now. The present is all we've got, after all.
"But, Udāyi, let be the past, let be the future, I shall set you forth the Teaching: When there is this this is, with arising of this this arises; when there is not this this is not, with cessation of this this ceases." - Majjhima ii,32
