Luang Por Sumedho to step down

Hello all,

I have just had this news forwarded in a general email from Ajahn Amaro.

Ajahn Amaro has had a formal invitation from Ajahn Sumedho to take over from him as abbot of Amaravati Monastery in England.
The current plan is that Ajahn Amaro will stay on at Abhayagiri until mid-July, then make the move to England to be at Amaravati in time for the beginning of the Rains Retreat; this year that day happens to be July 27th - Luang Por Sumedho's 76th birthday. He intends to stay at Amaravati through the Rains and then, after the Kathina festival, he will depart, leaving Ajahn Amaro at the helm...

Thank you for sharing.

Ajahn Sumedho has been a good ambassador for Theravada in the West.

I hope he enjoys the remainder of his Dhamma practice without this additional weight of responsibility.

You will enjoy Ajahn Amaro I think Manapa. I got to know him a little before he went off to the States. In fact at about the time he wrote the excellent " The Long Road North".
