Majjhima Nikaya and Digha Nikaya translations online

Postby retrofuturist » Mon May 10, 2010 8:28 am

Greetings,

I have been advised that the 152 suttas of the Majjhima Nikaya (Bhikkhu Bodhi translations) and 34 suttas of the Digha Nikaya (Maurice Walshe translation?) have been published online at...

http://www.palicanon.org

Alas, registration is required (presumably for copyright reasons) but I thought this would be worth announcing should anyone wish to register and have electronic access to these suttas, which are worth reading in their own right but are bound to facilitate more fruitful Dhamma discussion online. It seems from the site layout that in time they intend to have as much of the Tipitaka on line as possible.

Be aware though that your e-mail filter may automatically relegate your registration e-mail to the Junk folder, so if you can't find the confirmation e-mail, check there.

If you have asked me of the origination of unease, then I shall explain it to you in accordance with my understanding:
Whatever various forms of unease there are in the world, They originate founded in encumbering accumulation. (Pārāyanavagga)

Thanks for this retro!

However, I've been waiting for about 20 minutes and no e-mail has come, not even in the spam folder.

There appears to be a problem. I've tried with three different e-mails (one yahoo, one hotmail and another one), and I haven't received a confirmation e-mail at any of the three.

It sounds like a great idea, to have as much of the Pali Canon online and I certainly look forward to the day when all have access to the Canon. But I wonder if they are violating copyright? If you look at their copyright page pages and terms of use, they seem to be saying that if you suspect your copyright is being violated, send letters, get an attorney, etc., but be advised if you lose, you will have to pay our attorney fees, etc.

And it is based out of:

Pali Canon Online
Block C. 6F Yi Jing Bldg.
Guangzhou Ave. (M). Wuyang New City
Guangzhou P. R. China 510600

where copyright laws may not be as strict?

It might be worth contacting Wisdom, the publisher of Ven Bodhi and Walshe's books. If there is any question, I'd stay far away from that website.
