Postby sattva » Sat May 15, 2010 1:53 am

The Buddha taught: "If you knew what I knew about generosity, you wouldn't let one meal go by without sharing it."

i found this article on the subject and thought i would share it.

Thank you Sattva!
...he wondered whether there was any love between human beings that did not rest upon some sort of self-delusion.

Yes, thanks. One must always pay his or her debts.

For hatred, friendliness is the antidote, not to see unpleasant people; or by encouraging the pleasures that come from associuation in such matters as common meals. Frienliness means to have hopes for the welfare of others, to long for it, to crave it, to delight in it. It is affection nsullied by motives of sense-desires, passion or hope of return. Shantideva in his S'ikshaasamuccya, 212 (tr. Conze)

What is the use of his knowledge
pertaining to the number of insects in the whole world?
Rather, inquire into his knowledge of
that which is to be practised by us

Hello all,

This is what the Buddha said:

"If beings knew, as I know, the results of giving & sharing, they would not eat without having given, nor would the stain of miserliness overcome their minds. Even if it were their last bite, their last mouthful, they would not eat without having shared, if there were someone to receive their gift. But because beings do not know, as I know, the results of giving & sharing, they eat without having given. The stain of miserliness overcomes their minds."
