"The mystery of Kapilavastu will continue for many years to be the sport of unverified conjecture. There can be no doubt that the linking of Gotama with eastern India or Nepal has no archaeological basis and is totally false."

A poorly concocted fiction masquarading as history.
“No lists of things to be done. The day providential to itself. The hour. There is no later. This is later. All things of grace and beauty such that one holds them to one's heart have a common provenance in pain. Their birth in grief and ashes.”
- Cormac McCarthy, The Road

Learn this from the waters:
in mountain clefts and chasms,
loud gush the streamlets,
but great rivers flow silently.

And even if it was true, I don't think many people here would be really shocked.

I for one, don't base my faith in the Dharma, on the facts of ancient history, nor did the Teachings advocate that.

If you wanted to shock Buddhists, senouf, you would have to use other tactics.

What third rate buddhology is this?
My recently moved Blog, containing some of my writings on the Buddha Dhamma, as well as a number of translations from classical Buddhist texts and modern authors, liturgy, etc.: Huifeng's Prajnacara Blog.

This is just a bunch of malarkey. Let me tell you a story. There was a serbian prohet who could predict future and he said this: "Wise men will appear in the Orient, and their wisdom will cross all seas and frontiers, but people will not trust this wisdom for long time, and this real truth they will proclaim for a lie."

Let me see if I understand this article. A global conspiracy of scholars belonging to a "secret society" of Freemasons is suppressing the "truth" that the Buddha was really born in Gandhara and "broke away" from Zoroastrianism. If people only knew the "truth" that he was born in Gandhara and rejected Zoroastrianism, then they would... um... they'd certainly... um... what would they do now? Luckily for this writer, these conspirators, who are so desperate to cover up the truth, left several "anagrams" and obvious codes that give themselves away! This reveals how badly they wanted to keep the "truth" a... um... secret.

:cookoo:

Contrary to the writer's claims, Prof. Gombrich's date for the death of the Buddha is largely based on a record of the life spans of a lineage of ancient experts in monastic rules (see http://www.buddhistethics.org/15/prebish-article.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; ). It has nothing to do with "404 not found" (obviously). Nor does the word "Devil" come from the words "Da Evil," another claim the writer actually mentions in the article (seriously)! ("Devil," of course, comes from the Greek word diabolos.)

If this is not a deliberate parody of religious conspiracy theories, then someone must be a passionate fan of the novel The Da Vinci Code.

I agree.
I would have put it somewhere between tenth rate scholarship and pure drivel, but I guess I'm not as patient or tolerant or kind or forgiving as I ought to be.
I'll try to do better ... but if I ever start saying nice things about that sort of stuff, I won't be me any more.

One thing is true though - Lumbini is the World Heritage Site Number 666.

Hence we are Anti-Christ worshippers!

Like I asked in the "Historocity of the Buddha" thread...what is the goal in posting something like this?

Please respond, senouf. At least state your intentions.
