CLeansing and detox to go deeper

Post by VanCitySean »

Hey guys,

I have a roommate who is a vipassnna meditator and he has done a master cleanse
detox and he says that he can go alot deeper to the enlightened state when
he cleanses,

so i have been contemplating taking on a cleanse to detox my body,

i am thinking about master cleanse but i like to know if there is a recommended cleanse
by the vipassna community and if buddist have a special cleanse ?

i have been a vegiterian for about 2 months now... eating no meat.

No.

Only to cleanse your mind of greed, hatred and delusion.

Liberation is the inevitable fruit of the path and is bound to blossom forth when there is steady and persistent practice. The only requirements for reaching the final goal are two: to start and to continue. If these requirements are met there is no doubt the goal will be attained. This is the Dhamma, the undeviating law.

"go alot deeper to the enlightened state" doesn't sound like something a vipassana meditator would say, unless he misunderstands what the practice is about.

I notice when I fast that sensations in the body are stronger, and my awareness a little more vivid. I do believe after a few days when the the sensations from toxins subside that one would have an enhanced ability to concentrate but I've only ever fasted for 2-4 days at a time so haven't experienced this.

I don't think there is a recommended cleanse in vipassana circles, I don't recall hearing a teacher ever recommending going on a cleanse.
Pronouns (no self / not self)
“Peace is within oneself to be found in the same place as agitation and suffering. It is not found in a forest or on a hilltop, nor is it given by a teacher. Where you experience suffering, you can also find freedom from suffering. Trying to run away from suffering is actually to run toward it.”

Thankfully the Theravada is free from the kind of psuedo science and body fascism that gives rise to nonsense like the concept of detoxing. Which doesnt mean that all of its adherents have escaped being brainwashed by such notions. Whatever your friend is experiencing VanCitySean you can be fairly sure it has nothing to do with Enlightenment as taught by the Buddha.

Well there you go. Cancel that Vipassana retreat and invest instead into a big bag of bran..

The only cleansing and detox is sila and precept observance.

Apologies to the OP, but this just one of those subjects that invites the inner 13 year-old boys to emerge.

While a healthy body is generally important, the sort of bodily concerns of detoxing, etc, are not part of the traditional vipassana tradition.

It's true the OP was kind of silly.
However..,
Yoga and rigorous exercise, along with proper nutrition, contribute to a healthier body and a clearer mind.
Don't knock it until you've tried it.

I don't think that is really contested. What is contested is that a clean colon will lead to deeper insight by virtue of being clean.
