Greetings Tep,
No... just suggests that's what we work towards.
I suppose that actually brings us to the heart of this sutta study....
What good are all these descriptions of "ultimate persons", if not as a guide or an ideal to strive towards? Or is it just for us to be reverent?
Metta,
Retro.

I was waiting for this moment, when we reached a fruitful end!
Definitely, we -- earnest, purposeful Buddhists -- strive towards becoming ultimate persons, sooner (in this life) or later !
Thank you for taking the time.

both as both are practical. contemplating the qualities of the Buddha is also a form of meditation.retrofuturist wrote:Greetings Tep,

For me contemplation of Buddha is a component of the "training" towards the ultimate goal.jcsuperstar wrote:both as both are practical. contemplating the qualities of the Buddha is also a form of meditation.retrofuturist wrote:Greetings Tep,

On the other hand, I am not clear how you might use the descriptions or qualities of an ultimate person (arahant) as a guide.dhamma_spoon wrote:Definitely, we -- earnest, purposeful Buddhists -- strive towards becoming ultimate persons, sooner (in this life) or later !retrofuturist wrote:Greetings Tep,

Liberation is the inevitable fruit of the path and is bound to blossom forth when there is steady and persistent practice. The only requirements for reaching the final goal are two: to start and to continue. If these requirements are met there is no doubt the goal will be attained. This is the Dhamma, the undeviating law.

Faking is on the opposite side of truth/reality. Failure to see the truth from the very beginning never takes you back to reality.
How would you fake the first jhana, for example?

Well, boring means making a hole -- so I hope that hole leads us somewhere!bodom wrote:Its a 12 step slogan. And sorry for being so boring lol.
Let's start with Step 1, please. How does the slogan work?

Well step 1 my name is BODOM not boredom or boring.
Step 2 read this short article:

Okay, okay, bodom. You don't like my joke, so I will not call you Boredom again.bodom wrote:Well step 1 my name is BODOM not boredom or boring.

The article "Fake it .." is for uninstructed puthujjanas (worldlings) who enjoy delusion and pretending.
The article's idea is "to go through the routines of life as if one were enjoying them, despite the fact that initially it feels forced, and continue doing this until the happiness becomes real".
What they think is a "real happiness" is deluded because its origin is faked -- they do not have truths to begin with.
Only "seeing and knowing things the way they really are" leads to real happiness, according to our Teacher -- the Buddha.

Im not sure why you seem to think I am endorsing this type of practice over the practice as taught by the Buddha.
I made a generalised statement. It was not meant to be the final word on anything. I was going off of JC's post and posted something I thought was relevant to the direction the thread was taking. You asked for info regarding the phrase so I posted a link. I didn't write it nor do I adhere to it.
