Help!!! Get logged off right after logging in

Post by Annapurna »

Can't log in from my new laptop!!

What can I do?

As soon as I'm logged in, it logs me right out again.

From my old computer I can log in, but it's turtle slow and I really want to use the fast laptop..

I disabled cookies from the laptop, just to try it, but perhaps I should allow them? How?

Thanks a lot!

Hi Anna,

I received your e-mail message about this too. I am not sure what is causing that. Maybe it is the browser? Try using IE, Chrome, or a different browser and see if that works. Or maybe one of the computer techies here might have an idea, hopefully.

Thank you David. Internet Explorer is ok. Now I'm back in...

Mozilla Firefox doesn't let me in....

That's odd...

Does anybody know what i could do?

You have to enable the cookies or register an exception for dhammawheel.com. Don't use Internet Explorer if you don't have to. It's one big security hole. On my opinion at least.

Ty, Moggalana, now I suddenly gt back in, but also didn't tick the box that says: Log me on automatically each visit.

I know Interent explorer isn't safe, and have closed that window again.

This afternoon, the board even told me that I'm logged in with the wrong password, and so I had it sent to me, but it never arrived!

Of course it was the right one.

Can the heat play a role?

Oh, btw, I only deleted all board cookies.

I guess you are using the German version of Mozilla Firefox? Go to Extras -> Einstellungen -> Datenschutz: you don't have to enable cookies, but some websites don't work without them. You have two options: 1) you can leave the 'Cookies akzeptieren' box unchecked and register an exception for all the sites you are using frequently at 'Ausnahmen'; 2) you allow all cookies: check the box 'Cookies akzeptieren'.

Personally, I only allow cookies for the websites I use frequently because some websites use cookies to trace your 'digital footprint'.
Let it come. Let it be. Let it go.

Just checked it. It already was that way. Changed a few other things though.

Again! Can't log in over Firefox.
But via IE, yes.

But is IE safe?

I use Opera.

Annapurna, as long as you keep IE, windows, your anti-virus and firewall software fully up to date it should be fine. If you're only accessing safe, legal, well-known sites with good reputations all should be well.

There are no guaretees, of course, even with firefox or chrome or opera or anything else.

Edit for clarity: I use Opera Mobile. The advantage of using my mobile phone for all major intenet browsing is that most viruses and malware tend to be designed to attack windows, not symbian. The downside is that symbian is rarely updated on this handset and, if hacked, I could potentially get a very nasty phone bill. I'm protected by the credit agreement with the phone company though, so I think it's the lesser of two evils - if a hacker did seize control of my phone they couldn't do much with it... it's just not powerful enough :)

right now I am not using an antivisus, becuase my Ex, who gave me this laptop, says I don't need one

He says it would only slow it down considerably, which is true...

He says the firewall of microsoft is enough.

Is it?

If you don't surf pornsites and other dodgy site, maybe, but there are good freeware programs out there that will not slow down your machine that will protect things well enough. Also, with advice like that, maybe there is a good reason why he is your "ex."
