A discussion on all aspects of Theravāda Buddhism

Illusory Phenomenon and Phala Magga Nana

Postby Jetavana » Fri Aug 20, 2010 6:56 am

Hi,

In one's cultivation of meditation, whether it is from the beginning stage or, to the advanced stage or, to a seasoned Meditator, there will be much much illusory phenomenon. Each illusory phenomenon is different from another Meditator.

The key to muster these illusory phenomenon is to stay at Upheka state of mind and observe its arising and dissolving as Anicca/impermanence, and not get attached/react to it.

Even, should the Phenomenon be a true Magga and Phala Nana Phenomenon, one would still stay in the same Upheka state of mind to observe its arising till its dissolution.

Most of the time, these Illusory Phenomenon gives rise to many Meditators presuming that they have already reached an Ariya stage, that will hamper their progressive forward.

You are, indeed, very wise Jetavana!
Great post!

If we Intentionally give rise to upekkha it is samatha, part of the adhi-citta training. If we by seeing arising and dissolution automatically reach a state of equnamity following nibbida, then it will be a vipassana process. This is adhi-panna training.
