Amaravati stay update

Hello Everyone,
Good news, Ajahn Gavesako arrived, stayed a while and left today (pic comming soon) and wont be online often/frequently for a while,
Adrian arrived and seams in good spirits.
I found out what generosity really was, and what true gratitude feels like

Will post photos etc on my facebook page & multiply page so stay tuned there and if I have time will post some here

All is going well at Amaravati, going to Chithurst then Harnham for a week (each) before a quick stop home then back for another 3 month stay.

asked to become an anagarika. . . not much else to say and didn't look what I said last time but same stuff really, nice day off from regular duties (some) so having time at Hemel

I live about 10 miles away, at most. I wish I could be there, it would be wonderful.
Practicalities mean I am unable to travel or spare the time, which is very disappointing for me.
But it's wonderful to know you are enjoying your retreat there.

Having another day off, felt drained last night

Good to hear from you Manapa. Wrap up for Harnham ..even in summer. But I expect you know that.

I use to live in Aberdeen and didn't wrap up, shirt & jacket is all I need, where I am from is around as far north as Harnham so use to the weather/temp

I asked
you live close enough to make the evening sitting from time to time if you can not get here during the day... the gate doesn't close until about 21:30-22:00 and opens about 05:00-06:00

just spent a week in Chithurst and now having 2 weeks off from monastery living.

Chithurst was really good, everyone was nice, and got half lost when I went on a walk with one of the monks, , it was a spontanious walk, and really nice, but could of done with a compass!

For me Chithurst has its benefits as a place more so than Amaravati, but Amaravati is the right sandpaper (Tenzin Palmo reference if you are familiar!) for me at least, but definitely see benefits to being in both places, and type of practice both are conductive for, or aspects of cultivating and strengthening of the practice etc.

I arive back on the 14th to Amaravati and am unsure about internet access over the next few weeks so hope to be on sooner rather than later.

What's best for a first retreat? Is it better to stay at a monastery or a retreat center?
