What colors do you see in meditation?

Post by Ana »

So far I see white ripples,

if there is an order for colors to appear in meditation then it is:

white
blue
violet or pink
red
orange
yellow

and you?

Perhaps Yanick, it might be appropriate to indicate what meditation technique you are practicing.

Hi Ana

the colours are symbolic of everything in the world
notice how they change and fade away
if you can focus on the changing of these colours, and notice when they arise, persist and fade away, you are on your way to doing vipassana (insight meditation)

Hmmm, I've been told that the colors are a distraction as we try to quiet our minds, and to try not to indulge. Even if it looks neat

I see black. My eyes are closed. :jumping:

Unless I'm daydreaming instead of meditating or if using a kasina.

Colours are irrelevant.
I get different colours at different times. Sometimes two or more at once.
I notice, but take no notice.

Stopping thoughts is also not the objective, but noticing thoughts, yet not letting them linger, is a meditation technique.
The objective is to control thoughts, not suppress them.....

Unless you do a colored kasina meditation. Typically a colored disc is used for samatha meditation where you intend to have the 'after-image' for your mind to strengthen one-pointed concentration. It is talked about in the Visuddhimagga.

Liberation is the inevitable fruit of the path and is bound to blossom forth when there is steady and persistent practice. The only requirements for reaching the final goal are two: to start and to continue. If these requirements are met there is no doubt the goal will be attained. This is the Dhamma, the undeviating law.

When doing walking medtation on the lawn, I see mostly the colour green. I often wonder what the deeper symbolic significance of this might be.

My mind is still too "busy" to notice colors, but I'm just starting out.
