Re: The role of Ven. Mahākassapa in Gautama dispensation

King Ajatasattu is revered in Theravada. As Santa100 mentioned he sponsored the first council and after he met with the Buddha and listened to the Sāmaññaphalasutta he was said to be the putthujana lay follower with the most saddha in the Buddha. Thus he was a great protector and follower of Dhamma...

Re: The Origins of the Western Dvi-pitaka-vada

@Robert, would you know something concerning these matters? The Buddha taught the Abhidhamma to his mother and other devas over a 3 month period around the 7th year after his attainment. He have the outline (Matrix) to Sariputta who was able to expand it and who taught it to his 500 students. It wa...

Thanks.
Visesa means Sinhalese is special.
So this is a special case in comparison to the noramal Sotapanna?
Do you think that the word Sota is incorrectly translated as ear?
No, it is correct. It is talking about the one who listens/studies carefully and correctly understands with right view.

Re: What is the experience of delight when broken apart?

To explain in a simplified way. There is vipaka ( such as cakkhu - vinnana, eye consciousness), and immediately after kilesa - tanha, and then kamma. An example: seeing a beautiful object ( vipaka), there is the desire to own it ( kilesa) and then the planning and actions( kamma) involved in getting...

Re: What sutta is that?

The Commentary to the entire Anguttara nikaya was by Buddhaghosa who resided at the Mahavihara in Sri Lanka. Bhikkhu Bodhi writes in his introduction: "Aṅguttara Nikāya-aṭṭhakathā, also known by its proper name, the Manorathapūraṇī (Mp), “The Fulfiller of Wishes.” This is ascribed to the great ...

Re: What is the experience of delight when broken apart?

Anittha and ittha are not equivalents of sukkha and dukkha vedana. Yes agreed. Maybe you can double-check my understanding of these terms in relation to each other. As I understand it, sukkha and dukkha could be like two opposite sensations(vedana), which when preferring one over the other leads to...

Re: What is the experience of delight when broken apart?

If anittha can't(or isn't important to) be distinguished from ittha how does one know they're experiencing sukha vs dukkha accurately? They're both conditioned elements and anatta. How else might they be distinguished in experience? Anittha and ittha are not equivalents of sukkha and dukkha vedana....
