Re: DN 2 conclusively details: What is rūpa (form), and a-rūpa in four jhānas context?

This discussion of form reminded me of the concept of the Hologram... Holography is the science and practice of making holograms. A hologram, also known as a holograph,[1] (from the Greek for "whole description" or "whole picture") is a recording of an interference pattern which uses diffraction to ...

complicated to comment on a Sutta that talks about avoiding comments and discussions .. but I think it's more about disputes .. at the appropriate time, without disputing ideas, we can talk about the Dhamma. Thoughts? The build up to the abandonment of sīlabbataṁ (virtue and practice) in verse six.....

Re: Interesting Q&A in Vimuttimagga

a Buddhist commentary could use more Buddhist terms. this may show that the translator was a little distant from Buddhism. The Visuddhimagga refers to the practitioner as a "yogāvacara" ("one who's at home in exertion") nearly as often as it refers to him as a "bhikkhu". The word first appears in t...

Re: i dont like the term 'unbound'

Nibbana by Thanissaro Bhikkhu We all know what happens when a fire goes out. The flames die down and the fire is gone for good. So when we first learn that the name for the goal of Buddhist practice, nibbana (nirvana), literally means the extinguishing of a fire, it's hard to imagine a deadlier ima...

Re: Interesting Q&A in Vimuttimagga

No sir. This levitation part is just in a Qand A in the supernormal power chapter. I do not think the translation of the whole book is off because of that. It could have been properly translated but the meaning in the original text is also like that. This has got nothing to do with flying around in...

The term yogin could just mean a trainer in the spiritual path. It does not suggest this is hatha yoga or something like that. a Buddhist commentary could use more Buddhist terms. this may show that the translator was a little distant from Buddhism. for example, flying using the concentration of th...

The answer I saw did not really answer the question. Or maybe I did not understand the translation. There were number of problems like that. For an example: Definitions of some of the phenomena, Divine states, Caste discrimination, Unorthodox opinions ...etc. More infomation: just a note that the V...

Re: Interesting Q&A in Vimuttimagga

Vimuttimagga is the oldest .. So it is closer to the Canon in Pali. and so it can be more reliable. Is the above a good way of judging reliability ? Someone might end up concluding Mahasamghika doctrine as more reliable, If you use this dating technique. many people like Theravada Buddhism because ...

The question in the book is about if one is practising flying using 4th Jhana. Should he succeed in rising to considerable height and lose concentration, will he fell to his death? The answer I saw did not really answer the question. Or maybe I did not understand the translation. How AN 9.35: Gavi ...
