Re: celibacy tips

Chronic stress and tension makes celibacy more difficult. It takes deep relaxation physically, emotionally, and mentally to avoid feeding into lust. When something is arousing you can feel the tension snap into place. Somehow we have become convinced it feels good, but it is just tension. Study it ...

CBT and the Tipitaka

Hello, I recently found out that some trends in CBT such as ACT use buddhist metaphors, such as the two arrows and the elephant and the blind people. I was wondering if there was anyone around who knows enough of the two disciplines to tell me whether there are more examples of the tipitaka being di...

Re: How i lose weight

No, I mean why do so many people say that chronic overbreathing doesn't matter? Not that it matters. I'm ready to drop it. All I know is that breathing in any particular way has no known effect on weight loss. That said, I've never heard of such a condition as chronic overbreathing so I won't say m...

Re: How i lose weight

Hyperventilation has zero effect on weight loss. Why do so many people say that? Because so many people don't know a first thing about biochemistry, which is absolutely fine, yet spread their own misconceptions, which is slightly less fine. But does that surprise you? I mean so many people also say...

Re: How i lose weight

I'd suggest you to make a proper diet plan and try your best to follow that. There are a lot of diet plan which help people in achieving fitness goals. Diet plans are not for everyone. Diet plans turn your eating into an artificial, highly conscious process, create an additional cognitive load, can...

Re: How i lose weight

The book Breath by James Nestor says that out of 10 pounds of body weight lost, over 8 of them go out of the body with your breath. Oxygen comes into your system and comes out as carbon dioxide. So when you use oxygen and breathe it back out it takes weight with it. Oxygen is released to tissues by...

Lets recall Bhikkhu Pamutto who loved dhutanga and ended up disrobing some time later.
Has he talked about how and why he disrobed? It would be useful to read about his experience and about what changed since his interview with the other monk.

Re: dental floss loop hack - better technique and saves floss

Or just don't floss. And then lose your teeth in your old age  Or go for expensive gum care every year... Don't eat sugar, that will save your teeth (and heart) the most. Ideally 0 grams a day. Sucrose is not the only sugar that can cause cavities, glucose also can, and simply eating bread o...

Re: addicted to energy drinks

Maybe you are hyperactive or inattentive. Have you tried to check it at a psychologist? Maybe you are just self medicating a problem that could be dealt with in a better way? I couldn’t agree more. There are trained practitioners who have seen and helped thousands of people just like you. It’s a sh...

Re: Bh. Nyanamoli on 1st jhana, cessation of speech and rebirth

My impression of the Ven. Nyanamoli is that while he is clearly very intelligent and so on he needs to work on finding a presentation that is truly worthy of the Dhamma. It would be good to keep this type of disjointed discussion behind the closed doors of the monastery until some structured clarit...

Re: Why does Classical Theravada become your favorite choice, rather than all the other paths?

Because it seems closest to what the Buddha actually taught, and because in general it seems to be the branch of Buddhism that attaches the least importance to mythology and focuses instead on the cure-disease approach through individual responsibility.

Re: Buddhism: just another "truth"?

Why would the Buddha say that my life is a piece of poop when he said the human life is extremely rare as rare as a blind turtle sticking its head through a hole in a log in a wide ocean? It sounds like to me you don't even have a proper understanding of the true dhamma. Ok so at last I’ve found th...

Re: Buddhism: just another "truth"?

Why would the Buddha say that my life is a piece of poop Wait, didn’t he say so? I was convinced I had read this somewhere. Doesn’t this ring a bell? If you're convinced that's not good enough, I for example have studied the suttas thoroughly every day for 20 years that I even remember the names of...

Re: Buddhism: just another "truth"?

This is very similar to the view put forward by binocular, late of this forum. All spiritual progress is a self-confirming hypothesis, the result of people convincing themselves to see things in line with the teachings. Those that dissent because they can't see it are suppressed, patronised, sideli...
