Re: Vipassana and Qi energy?

A blocked body will never unlock the mind. Many on the Buddhist path miss this very important point and fail as a result or get stagnant for a very, very long time seeing no progress. What do you mean by progress ? Because - if you judge progress on a body-based criteria, certainly that you'll reac...

Re: mentally tired

Drowsiness has been discussed in few topics, but I think your main problem is too much effort. You're trying to do more than simply be aware of what's happening, which is what you should do. This can often happen with Mahasi technique as the message people get is that the mind has to "go out&qu...

Re: How much water do arahants drink and when do they drink it? Countering drowsiness.

The water need depends on temperature, activity level, and what you eat, and also your body. So yes: "drink when you're thirsty" works for many people. Based simply on the fact that you asking a water question, I would suggest to drink a half liter more. Talking about questions, the water ...

A bridge must have a foundation at both ends. I think the bridge you are attempting to build has no foundation in what the buddha taught. . Good luck.
My point was a bridge between traditional medicine and modern medicine. This is where the discussion has evolved.

Between the "long time ago" and now research has shown things to be a bit different. See. Maybe I'm missing something, but what you're linking is not exactly a recent research report discussing the topic that I was mentioning. Something I found myself: Endocrine response to masturbation-i...

Re: "Moderation in what is beneficial"? - Yoga connections.

The body has a good reason to expel the semen, and it has evolved a highly pleasurable connexion for expelling semen so that it will want to do it, and do it often. I'd like to comment on the "often" point: Recently, I caught on TV, few minutes from a show where a medical doctor was invit...

Re: "Moderation in what is beneficial"? - Yoga connections.

Returning to the original discussion about semen, I fail to see how loss of menstrual blood can somehow be a parallel in women to the ejaculation of semen in men. 1. There wasn't a parallel in sense of equality, since is that man's and woman's reproductive systems have certainly differences between...

Re: Thai forest tradition vs "non-forest tradition"

I've bumped into a source, which I don't remember, from Thanissaro Bhikkhu, which presented some of the history of the forest tradition. From my memory, the Forest tradition is more ... traditional, as in old or maybe untouched by the world (I believe "Forest" is correctly translated as &q...

without collapsing from weakness when they're menstruating. I made no claims about collapsing, just stating that I have information that there is some depletion to the energy and to the body. My source for what I am saying does not come from experience (as a woman), but I have attended some herbali...

Normal monthly blood loss doesn't drain vitality, otherwise female athletes wouldn't be able to compete in athletics, run marathons etc. We could call it normal, but the range of normal is more wide than what you assume it to be, and there are means to reduce it to a minimum. When you cut your fing...

Re: Going against the advice of the monk?

You'll note that the technique being taught to you was not documented in the suttas... therefore, it is not essential to do it this way. A "meditation technique" is a pragmatic tool, at best... if this tool doesn't work for you, there are other techniques and other non-technique-based app...

That is all very nice, but not necessarily true; however, my response was to the claim that bone marrow is the source of semen, which is nonsense. It may seem nonsense if you read it wrongly, meaning literally. In fact, marrow does not refer strictly to marrow, and semen doesn't refer strictly to s...

Re: Going against the advice of the monk?

Maybe it would be helpful if you give more details about your practice, like exactly what meditation you're practicing, how much time during the day, etc. The advice from the monk was to let go of judging and stick to the abdomen. That seems like a valid advice. If you're judging, that is not helpin...

Re: Dealing with overactive thinking mind

I don't know if focusing on the body will be enough in those scenarios. Maybe I can try next time For this (for anything, really) to work and be effective, it needs to have solid grounding. What you need is to develop a skill, it's like with a sport or a craft, like tennis, or baseball or pottery o...
