Re: in wich ways does Mahayana contradict the suttas?

It is also worth noting many Mahayana suttas state verbatim that they reject known Early Buddhist Textx/Theravada suttas (i.e. "I know this sutta says A but the Buddha actually said B"). So they knowingly are trying to change what was already established.

Re: Signs you will not attain enlightenment ?

Nobody can predict the future, so it follows that nobody can tell you you won't reach a stage of enlightenment. The only way to ensure you won't achieve anything in this lifetime is by you yourself embracing wrong view and putting forth no effort. That is a guarantee of many rebirths to come. As oth...

Re: Ordaining with HIV & Anxiety Disorder

Sorry to say it, but I am not sure if you would be able to ordain with HIV. There are some vinaya considerations dealing with communicable diseases (which yes, HIV is now treatable for long periods of time but not curable). There may also be many logistical complexities of taking your medications (n...

Re: Microdosing on cannabis

THC is an intoxicant. Advil and tylenol are not. Sleeping pills could be depending on the intention of taking them. It isn't intoxicating in low doses and can have the same effect as pharmaceutical drugs without the many side effects. https://kindmedsaz.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/07/DosageChart-v2...

Re: Beginning with a disrespect towards commentaries

Disrespect to the dhamma can be shown in many forms. Don't worry about other's disrespect, look at where you are showing disrespect.

Even a cursory familiarity with any one of the yanas of the Buddhist tradition would tell you this is nonsense from a new religious cult. Why waste your time?

Re: Why monks don't say "I don't know"?

I've certainly heard my teachers say "I don't know". Sometimes the instances they say that are pretty instructive in and of themselves. It often short circuits people asking bizarre or unanswerable questions. Refusing to give them more fuel to confuse themselves with.

Re: How long does Purity of Virtue take to complete?

If you are hankering for completion of the path and the end of pain, it is understandable, but if you cling to the expectations of that, it will disturb your mind and cause frustration. The exasperation is understandable, but not helpful on its own.

Re: How long does Purity of Virtue take to complete?

I know there is no one size fits all answer to this since we all differ in our karma, discipline, practice and temperament, but if I am extremely diligent every day for many hours in my mindfulness practice, if there any kind of range I can expect for my meditation practice to finally be complete r...

Re: Does all the past and present Buddha originated from

All past and future Buddhas are said to arise from "Jambudipa" as far as the Suttas say. But it also says that there can only be one Buddha in a "world system" at a time, which implies they can come from elsewhere.
