Set and setting is everything.
They're not? Can you inform us about the end of the dispute?

Re: Swearing Oaths

In the US, at least, jurors are not required to swear on any text. One can merely swear to tell the truth, the whole truth, etc.. Many courtrooms don't even have Bibles available. Indeed, if someone tries to force you to swear on a bible, especially as a non-christian, you'd have a pretty good lega...

That is why the dhamma is so excellent-- the path is open to all who put forth effort.

Re: Risk of taking vaccine jab

On other news, a family, all of them buckled in, got seriously injured in a car crash. Seat belts don't really help, do they? And don't get me started on the helmets. When I was in LA, people were riding their motorbikes with no helmets. Hell, I've never had a motorbike crash when my helmet was use...

It is painless for the people who sell the suicide booth.

From a dhamma perspective, it is blameworthy unless you are an arahant.

Re: How to give unconditional love? Especially when I am stuck in my room praying & meditating every day?

This brought on a big positive change for me when I learned it. In my experience, wishing "goodwill" to others is a hope that they find true happiness. This was definitely my experience too. Trying to love everybody I find almost insurmountable, and even the term "lovingkindness"...

Re: How to give unconditional love? Especially when I am stuck in my room praying & meditating every day?

Although sometimes translated as "love", metta is basically "goodwill". I find it easier when it is defined that way. Trying to love everybody is different, to me at least.

Re: Booster dose

Greetings dharmacorps, Omicron has barely arrived in the United States. As I said, it's a total game-changer. Any numbers that are "regardless of variant" are redundant now. Bring some live numbers to the table in a month or two's time and I assure you they will be radically different. Ei...

Re: Booster dose

And, it would seem that being vaccinated does very little at all, if anything, to stop you getting Omicron. Not all "getting" is created equal. A vaccination isn't a garantee against "getting" a disease. Most recent CDC stats, for hospitalization due to severity of disease, (reg...

Re: Advaita seeks Atman, Buddhism seeks anatman, right?

The whole point of anatta is that look where ever you may, the self is not to be found. At least, not in the way you think it is. So the search for the self is not bound to turn up much.

Re: Advaita seeks Atman, Buddhism seeks anatman, right?

The Buddha taught suffering and the end of suffering. One of the teachings related to that was not-self, anatta. What "anatman" is, I have no idea.

Re: Have You Made a Will? If not, how old are you?

There is also a sometimes valid/sometimes not dispute of who cared for/looked after mom and dad in their later years inclusive of personal care. Some children get upset that a child that dutifully cared for mom and dad gets the same amount as one who disappeared years ago and only showed up to get a...

Re: Have You Made a Will? If not, how old are you?

A lot of this is highly dependent on where you live. Even within the US, the laws for inheritance can vary widely from State to State. The bigger your family (and obviously, the more contentious) the bigger the potential headaches after you die. If you die without a will in the US, your estate is su...
