Re: Uganda Buddhist Center

[2 serious fault in the Vinaya (original story here ). You just linked to PDFs of the entire vinaya, which is ridiculous. If you're going to make a link, how about make it to the exact rule? Honest mistake buddy. I typed the page #, but when posted it's missing somehow. Anyway, it's on page ...

Agree. What is unique about Bhante Buddharakhita (Not to mention some other monks) is his ability to mix Buddhism with his social programme. I understand he has started an orphanage for which we all can help. https://ugandabuddhistcenter.org/ Just a curious question: Is it allowed in the Buddha's T...

Re: Where did the Buddha forbid use of Sanskrit?

maybe this : I allow you, 0 Bhikkhus, to learn the word of the Buddhas each in his own dialect. Cullavagga, 33,i Cullavagga - Fifth Khandhaka: Chapter 33 1. Now at that time there were two brothers, Bhikkhus, by name Yamelu and Tekula by birth, excelling in speech, excelling in pronunciation. These...

Re: Uganda Buddhist Center

I met him randomly during a visit to a German monastery where I'd actually gone to meet Ajahn Brahm. He asked me how my life was going, and I told him that my job and financial situation is not secured and that I didn't know what the future holds. He said (I paraphrase), " Life would be really...

“No Sex” or “Right Sex”?

Dear forum, Should it be “avoiding sexual activity” or “avoiding sexual misconduct” under the Right Action of the Noble Eightfold Path ? My personal view at the moment is, it should be “avoiding sexual activity” since there’s no way one can develop a mind free of lust while engaged in “Right Sex”! :...

Re: The teachings of Ven. Waharaka Abhayaratanalankara Thero

I am astonished by the level of ignorance (avijja) of many people who are commenting. I know that the majority of people who are actually reading what I write are capable of overcoming avijja when the truth is shown with evidence. For me, it's the opposite: I am astonished sometimes, but mostly gla...

Re: The Buddha hasn't forgotten about us

Gotama the Buddha attained parinibbāna c. 483BC. But Nibbāna isn't annihilation just the end of suffering. Nibbāna is Awakening, so that means the Buddha hasn't forgotten about us. He isn't a God that can answer prayers, but I believe he still remembers us and is aware of us . “Ānanda, that to some...

Do you know that it is all these extras that there has been many Sotapannas taking roots and many more will be expected to be Sotapannas in the future? Are you able to shoulder this huge responsibility for your suggestions? Much metta. Are you saying that you and Lal are sotapannas who have taken t...

Lal, I request you to shut down the Pure Dhamma website found at https://puredhamma.net/. If you want to spread Dhamma in its pure form there, here and in other places, I suggest you to take an approach where you do not go about adding extra ideas, extra concepts, extra theories, extra interpretati...

Re: The teachings of Ven. Waharaka Abhayaratanalankara Thero

I can't imagine I would be given the amount of leeway Lal has been given if I started proliferating Mahāyāna here the way that Lal proliferates the Waharaka dispensation, which is at the very least as innovative and alien to Theravāda Buddhism as Mahāyāna. Imho this forum is a complete mess and has...

Re: The teachings of Ven. Waharaka Abhayaratanalankara Thero

I will start on a different topic today, and will come back to the concept of "san" in future posts. Concept of "san"? Is that Buddhism? This is something I heard: When the former President of Sri Lanka, Mahinda Rajapakshe competed in the 2005 (?) election, he utilised the ideol...
