Re: Brahmacariya Breach

Fortify both offense and defense, starting with what the suttas and vinaya say. Summary and sutta refs here: http://lucid24.org/sted/8aam/2sankappo/kama/index.html Hiri and ottappa is good, but beating yourself up is not. Studying the relevant vinaya passages is good. When you vicariously experienc...

Re: Brahmacariya Breach

I highly recommend you to stay as a long term resident in a Buddhist monastery. I would like this. Very difficult to practice properly in normal household life. Thank you for your very insightful response. There is no question in my mind that celibacy is the preferable condition. I'm happy for you....

Re: Frank Yang is DONE!

Frank Yang says he's fully enlightened since about 3 months ago, and is very YOUTUBE about it, so this thread was inevitable. Congratulations! He appears to have been working hard at this for some years using Goenka, Mahasi, Dzogchen and others, and achieved something remarkable. He believes he's d...

Re: covid vaccine: yea or nay?

I voted yes, with conditions. There is no such thing as "without conditions", with the notable exception of Nibbana.

Re: Brahmacariya Breach

Thanks, everyone. I feel shame but also encouragement. This doesn't need to be a major crisis. Just a let down, and a humbling experience. I have a long way to go, but I am so grateful to be on this path at all. It is frightening to think about how things might turn out in the absence of Dhamma, and...

Re: Brahmacariya Breach

... recently had a breach of the vow... I would say we are seeing here impermanence at play. And I bet it's going to happen again in this very life or with a future one until you reach nibbana, if I'm not getting the concept wrong. I suppose that yes, this is related to the impermanence of my stron...

Re: Brahmacariya Breach

Forget it and move forward. A breach of celibacy merely stirs up sankharas. If celibacy is reestablished, those sankharas will settle down on their own accord. If celibacy is practiced for a future imagined "rebirth/reincarnation" rather than for here-&-now benefits, such as real jhan...

Re: Brahmacariya Breach

I felt I was betrayed when I breached the vow. Because when I took the vow, I think that was from a more wholesome place. When I broke the vow, I was simply pursuing immediate gratification through the senses. I don't want to be a slave to desire. I want to be free from it, ultimately. Also - I don...

Re: Brahmacariya Breach

A vow is necessary but not good enough. the vow will not change your perverted perception, for that you must investigate and try to understand the gratification, danger, and escape from sensuality, so that you can turn your current perception around , so that it is no longer perverted. If you dont s...

Re: Brahmacariya Breach

Hi Garrib, The moral aspect of your question has to do with the vow. The vow is turning an action (abstaining) into a law, so from a moral POV, you violated a law/agreement/contract between you and your future self. As the violation did not include a third party, you are spared the technicalities a...

Re: Brahmacariya Breach

Plus, If you are a lay person, you don't need to be celibate. If you choose to follow the 8 precepts, or the 5 plus celibacy (including no masturbation), then you can't expect to be able to "turn it off" immediately. Unless your "breach" involves illicit sex or criminal conduct,...

Brahmacariya Breach

Hi All, I am a lay person but intend to live out the remainder of my life in celibacy - whether I ordain or not. I am not soliciting opinions about whether or not a lay person should live a celibate life etc... My dilemma is this: I recently had a breach of the vow. I'll spare you the details, but I...

I have been reading about these new vaccinations and how they will contain animal rna, and may bond with your genetic sequence effectively genetically modifying you in some animal human hybrid technically. I believe one question for ordination is are you human? Can this effect ones ability to ordai...

Certainly not!
