how do you overcome desire for and passion about the idea of having a relationship with someone

if it's a bad thing to have, i have thoughts of repulsion and disgust to those who are in relationships
if it's a good thing to have, i feel jealousy for others who have them and longing to have one also

This sounds like one of those old teachings the Buddha gave that can be interpreted a number of different ways, like the seamstress one. Still I wish I knew what the Buddha intended when he said this
