Re: Momentariness

Goofaholix wrote: Fri Apr 19, 2024 4:43 am It's about anicca, momentariness is just a way of understanding anicca in my opinion.
'Seeing' anicca is to do with arousing dispassion. Momentariness is just imposing a view onto arbitrary meditation experiences.

Re:

When anicca is truly known by means of insight meditation, as opposed to ideation or book knowledge, momentariness is also known as continual change, a flux, or stream, of processes. On a gross level the verses quoted refer to samsara. Rebirth, again and again. There's not much ideation or book kno...

Re: Momentariness

The teaching of anicca is to help people develop dispassion. Momentariness is just a metaphysical dead end. Considering our own and others mortality is possibly the peak teaching of impermanence. Contemplation of death is a real in your face teaching that leads to dispassion. How can the idea of mom...

The sutta reasons given seem to be 'immediate' and discernible issues. God help us all if we are to have our whole character put under the microscope before being allowed to make offerings.

Re: Disrespecting Vipassana

You knew what I was asking. For some reason you persist in being unpleasant. I think you'll find that a quick read through of the thread will show you that the unpleasantness originated from you... and still continues. If you haven't the manners to take a few seconds in formulating a simple questio...

Re: Disrespecting Vipassana

I asked why it’s Jainism 🤷🏻‍♂️ No you didn't. You said... 'Jainism?' I thought you meant you'd never heard of it (it's an ancient religion from India) or am I being obtuse 😉 You knew what I was asking. For some reason you persist in being unpleasant. I think you'll find that a quick read through of...

Re: Disrespecting Vipassana

The wearing away of old kamma via intensive 'meditation' practice is pretty much comparable to Jainist austerity practices. The painful (and very occasionally delightful) sensations viewed 'equanimously' are apparently burning up your old kamma. It's a form of practice that the Buddha ridiculed. Al...

Maybe if you'd taken the time to ask a half decent question instead of a one word post I might have done.

Re: Disrespecting Vipassana

As a former leading light in the Vipassana Research Institute demonstrates (possibly the No.2 after Goenka)... Gaikwad was acquitted of all charges. https://indianexpress.com/article/cities/mumbai/mumbai-drug-case-policeman-suspension-overturned-6243418/ That's good. He must have suffered through t...

Re: Disrespecting Vipassana

You already know that I’m asking why you think it’s Jainism. See Suddh's comment above 👍 I see. Not sure why you couldn’t have said that initially 🤷🏻‍♂️ Maybe if you'd taken the time to ask a half decent question instead of a one word post I might have done. As it is, it is infinitely more satisfyi...

Re: Disrespecting Vipassana

Exactly where does the Buddha teach that a more & more minute examination of impermanence results in seeing 'reality'. For a start, the Buddha wasn't interested in sub atomic 'reality' and as for all the other nonsense... kundalini, energies, gaps of peace etc. it's just 🤢 99% of the Buddha's t...

Wrong approach. Need to read and analyze. And check who is the expert, Reject only when you directly know.
I thought the Buddha was the 'expert'.

Brightness in the mind is merely a 'sign' of 'cleansing'... a mind divorced of the five hindrances.

It's nothing to fixate on unless you're in fourth jhana and after super powers.
