Sutta meditation series podcast

Recently found this series of podcasts.

https://anchor.fm/suttameditationseries

I personally found them very interesting and recommend them highly.

Reason for the post... does anyone know anything about the originators of this series?

I've searched online but found nothing.

Thanks

Re: Is it compulsory to accept Abhidhamma as a part of doctrine to be considered as Theravada?

Is it compulsory to accept Abhidhamma a part of the doctrine to be considered as Theravada? What if a particular Buddhist sect does not accept Abhidhamma as authoritative and reject accepting or teaching it. It's quite possible that they would not be regarded as Theravada by quite a few people. On ...

Re: What is the diffrence between Vipassana and Four Satipathana meditaiton?

What is the difference between Vipassana (Samathavipassana?) and Four Satipathana meditation? I thought they both the same. What do you mean by vipassana? It's a word that has grown to mean different things to different people. I would say that the four satipathana is practiced to realise clear see...

Re: Is it compulsory to accept Abhidhamma as a part of doctrine to be considered as Theravada?

I used to be you. Reading this sentence, I can't help thinking of this, and related suttas... “Mendicants, transmigration has no known beginning. No first point is found of sentient beings roaming and transmigrating, hindered by ignorance and fettered by craving. When you see someone in a sorry sta...

Re: Is it compulsory to accept Abhidhamma as a part of doctrine to be considered as Theravada?

As for being a 'newbie'... :toilet: a bit beneath you... attack my 'idiosyncratic' views all you like... but play nice. It wasn’t a criticism. I was just curious to see where you are at. I think I understand your position now. I used to be you. So you're the one I keep getting bailiff letters for. ...

Re: Venerable Khitaka, his "body" plus some information from the commentary.

So he is taking about jhana ? He is... the commentary seems to overreach & complicate. in what way? The important part is the commentary treats kaya as a physical body that levitates, and that the piti sukha are referring to the 4 jhanas. In other words, they're using the same dictionary as EBT, ka...

Re: Is it compulsory to accept Abhidhamma as a part of doctrine to be considered as Theravada?

I assume the missing word is 'read'. Yes thanks. Isn't it simply that a lot of people see the suttas as complete and well suited to actually walking the path and see no use in endless lists These are also in the suttas. Vedic atoms, This shows that you don’t know what it is you are criticising. pre...

Re: Is it compulsory to accept Abhidhamma as a part of doctrine to be considered as Theravada?

I am seeing a pattern. People who strongly disagree with the Abhidhamma tend not to have anything of the Abhidhamma. I’ve seen the same with the Visuddhimagga. Ajahn Sujato has of course, although I sometimes wonder if he didn’t misunderstand certain concepts such as sabhāva. He seems to read it in...

Re: Keep away from Mahamuna sect in Sri Lanka?

Greetings, As I’ve said, I agree with Ven. Bodhi and am much more in his camp. Oh. I also believe that the Commentaries take unnecessary risks when they try to read back into the Suttas ideas deriving from tools of interpretation that appeared perhaps centuries after the Suttas were compiled. Metta...

Re: Keep away from Mahamuna sect in Sri Lanka?

Grasping... the vinaya mention is an obviously late addition and contradicts what is stated elsewhere in the vinaya. That wasn’t the Vinaya. It was a sutta. There are many more. You haven't really informed me of its origination. How was such a vast teaching so startling absent from the suttas? Beca...

Re: Keep away from Mahamuna sect in Sri Lanka?

Nonsense. Abhidhamma is not referred to in the suttas the way you are trying to imply. It is directly in the Vinaya. In the suttas we find the proto-Abhidhamma matika (matrix) being referred to: In that case, friend Sariputta, listen to the Dhamma. Pay careful attention. I will speak.” “As you say,...

Re: Keep away from Mahamuna sect in Sri Lanka?

I think you should take a hard look at the Abhidhamma origination story. The Buddha visits heaven (perfectly acceptable) teaches the devas (perfectly acceptable)... does this for 3 months leaving a body double in his place, repeats the teachings in secret to Sariputta. Buddha never mentions it in t...
