Re: Ajahn Chandako to James - Transition to Laylife
Just wonder what would have been the situation if he was abbot in Thailand. Regarding Ajahn Liem reaction, he was pretty calm. Are the expectations of western people different? From reading all the posts, I couldn't see what was really wrong except that people didn't like his direct style. Anyway w...

Re: Ajahn Chandako to James - Transition to Laylife
I spent some months there some years ago whilst he was away and it was clear that the community were sincere meditators and similarly that they were suffering greatly with the Ajahn and his tyrannical approach. This had been going on for years and years. I guess they finally had enough. Really great...

Yeah, I am not into working in a monastery setting. There are definitely places with little to no regular work. Seek them out.

Re: I disrobed and returned to "normal" life
Forgive me but I have to ask... Have you enjoyed being able to watch the telly again? No, all the things I missed about lay-life seem to be not as good as I remembered them to be, when I was a monk. I should write about this actually, an update now that I've been back in the worldly world for 3 mon...

Re: What are the benefits of being a monk/nun?
Hi, So I was wondering people's opinion/experience in the benefits of being a monk/nun at a Theravada monastery. Thanks. Apart from the things mentioned above, I'd also say the support and guidance from other monks is so helpful. Wherever I was having trouble, my fellow bhikkhu friends would give m...

Re: Where in china to meditate?
How about where this documentary was filmed in Zhongnan Mountains, Shaanxi Province. https://youtu.be/pH2ozq65yHQ Love that film. I went to that area a few years ago but it was during winter so was inaccessible. Could be an option at this time of year though. That said, my feeling is I would need t...

Where in china to meditate?
Does anyone know a good monastery I could spend a few weeks in china? OR perhaps a place that's quiet and scenic? A mountain or forest area with suitable accommodation? (could be a hotel or airbnb type setup etc)
Thank you
Thank you

Re: Monasteries around Ubon Ratchathani???
What do you like about it exactly? Few people, most people are Thai (only an Israeli samanera who will go back to Nanachat this month), absolutely kind and wise abbot, good food, good kuti, good facilities, not too strict, not a heavy atmosphere, much free time to practice. I was in Wat Marp Jan th...

Re: Monasteries around Ubon Ratchathani???
I must say I'm loving this monastery so much, I can't even believe this exists, lol. Feeling very very happy. Thank you so much, James. I'll always be grateful for you. Took some pictures before and during pindapata. Hope you enjoy them. https://i.imgur.com/JdrRdXQ.jpg https://i.imgur.com/ViWV5PW.j...
