Re: Types of Open Eye Meditation in Buddhism

If you want to practice Satipathana, closing your eye is not a good idea. When you close your eyes you have the risk of moving to Samatha and experience Jhana. From my understanding jhana is the goal of satipatthana. In the Anapanasati sutta the buddha states that anapanasati establishes the 4 sati...

Re: My Journey into Homelessness

Thanks everyone for the kind words. Did a quick search and you must be 18-19 now? \ My 19th birthday is coming up at the end of April. I feel lucky I came to the dhamma before I got to involved with the world. No debts, kids, or any other major responsibilities lol. I've met multiple people over the...

Re: Looking to Meet & Learn from Foreign Meditators in Thailand

Also I am wondering.. in the forums' opinions.. who are the highest, most realized, spiritual masters in Thailand? How do we judge how high how realized they are? Looking forward to learning from you. Thank you. In buddhism it is taboo for monks to reveal there attainments, so you really just have ...

Re: Thai Forest Monasteries

Hi upāsakā, I've been to three of those places, your question is regarding visas & ordination? Some things to consider THank you Bhante. Can you provide details about your visits? What was the environment like? How was the teacher? Do you believe they fit the requirements for a suitable place t...

Re: Travel Advice

Update: I believe I've made the right decision. There have been two confirmed cases in the county my school is located in. They have yet to release the location, but I'm willing to bet there from my school. It's very suspicious because the NJ government has been giving the locations of every confirm...

Re: Travel Advice

Unfortunately, I just cancelled my tickets and emailed Ajaan DIck. Oh well, maybe next time. Just remember next time, there's ALWAYS something that stops you from going to the monastery or ordaining. Always. Thanks for the advice James. I am well aware of Mara's tricks to keep one from ordaining an...

Re: Travel Advice

Unfortunately, I just cancelled my tickets and emailed Ajaan DIck. Due to the size of my school, one of the biggest in New Jersey, I believe there is a high possibility of someone having it here and a high possibility of it having spread throughout the school. Also there is an unconfirmed rumor that...

Re: Travel Advice

Practice at home. cut down all nonessential travel. In my opinion, we have not seen the bottom of this problem as of yet. Yeah I'm starting to realize it would be incredibly selfish if I went if I even had a thought that I might have it. It would be better for everyone if I stayed home for now. Can...

There has been no confirmed cases in my immediate area, but fear that since I go to a big school in a transit hub city that it could be in my area.My school has cance...

Re: Thai Forest Monasteries

Thank you everyone for the advice. I will keep updated on plans. I was planning to buy the tickets and stuff after I got back from my week in Virginia, but now I might wait longer due to the coronavirus situation. If worse comes to worse I ordain in America, which is definitely not bad, just might b...
