Re: Poll: Abhidhamma and Theravada.

Probably he doesn't know about Kaṭukurunde Ñāṇananda Often this led to different understandings. Best example would Singapore/Malaysia famous Luang Phor Dhammavuddho who completely rejected all Abhidhamma and commentaries, only accept Nikayas. He said in the Pali Suttas, the Buddha taught there is ...

Re: Sri Lankan PM promises to introduce new anti-conversion bill to protect Buddhists

Quite similar to the Hindu Nationalism currently in India, where muslims are killed for beef eating, or on suspicion that they are selling.

Venerable Khitaka, his "body" plus some information from the commentary.

This one is from the Theragatha : Truly my body is light, touched by much joy and happiness. My body floats as it were, like cotton blown by the wind . - Translation by K.R Norman Some more information from the commentary : “My body does become wonderfully light (lahuko), on having been permeated by...

Re: Keep away from Mahamuna sect in Sri Lanka?

Greetings, Are the Sri Lankan Buddhists hyper nationalists, like the Hindu nationalists currently in India ? If you mean is there more of a commitment to " Sri Lankan Buddhism" than there is to Buddhavacana, then from what I've discerned to date, the answer would be Yes. Metta, Paul. :) Thanks a lo...

Re: Experience about "hadaya-vatthu" as an anchor point?

(Adapted from the translation of the ancient manuscript Kham Pariyai Khuen Tham [An Explanation Relating to the Teaching], dated 1783 CE, in the article: The Old Meditation ( boran kammatthan ), a pre-reform Theravāda meditation system from Wat Ratchasittharam: The pīti section of the kammatthan ma...

Difference between Maha Chulalongkorn Rajavidyalaya and Mahamakutarajavidyalaya editions of Tipitaka

On this website : https://mahidol.ac.th/budsir/appendix.htm . The sources of the Pali mentioned are : Mahaculalankaranarajavidyalaya and Mahamakutarajavidyalaya.

My question is are these editions sufficiently different ? or are they just mere reprints?

Re: B. Sujato third jhāna, "The body as metaphor", more like out of context, out of his body, out of his mind

Dearest arkapava, why do you create a distraction in a thread on Jhana? Why does the extra "h" bother you? Now there are words like Budda with a missing h, or present like Aṭṭhakatha, Guhathaka, Aṭṭhakavagga. I am not a linguist, letters misplaced or replaced don't bother me, but ill-will towards o...

Re: Proposed solution to the Jhana Wars debate

MN 150 gives an example of seclusion from sensual objects : ‘It is because those venerable ones resort to remote jungle-thicket resting places in the forest. For there are no forms cognizable by the eye there of a kind that they could look at and delight in. There are no sounds cognizable by the ear...
