Re: help with a mother's request

Son = putta (use caution, ... It seems like mara has taken so many beautiful and meaningful words and made the illusions of them being phonetically copied in vulgar slang. Some of the most meaningful ancient Sanskrit words have had this happen to them as well. Very sad. The swastika is another exam...

Re: death of forum member dylanj

Since this topic I have been being very sad. Yesterday I cried seeing Dylan's pictures and old posts. For a long time I had not heard about the death of a "close" person. We are so busy with our sorrows and pains that we forget about the dukkha of death and separation from the loved. Dukkha dukkha. ...

Re: Gay and Buddhism

Who cares what this guy says? I'm sorry but I don't.
This and other things show how much commentarists pervert all the Canon. A simple thing like this one they turn into a controversy. :console:

Re: Moderation in food, 6th precept and weight loss

You might want to take a look at food combining in Ayurveda. https://www.banyanbotanicals.com/info/ayurvedic-living/living-ayurveda/diet/ayurvedic-food-combining/ Some foods don't mix well and hampers the digestion. For example Banana and Milk is a very bad combination for digestion. I stopped drin...

Re: Gay and Buddhism

I doubt homophobia in Buddhism was a significant contributing factor in Dylan's death, whatever he died from, but certainly it is hard being a gay youth. I didn't say that. I meant, if you are gay, you want to ordain and you believe you can't because of your particular interpretation of the EBT (Dy...

Re: Gay and Buddhism

My problem with commentaries in regard to this matter is simply the proliferation they created around pandaka. For example, jf you read Vinaya you'll see they “allow” the ordination of bottom gay males, but not of bisexuals (half-time pandaka) What is the logic behind this? Utterly arbitrary a...

Re: Gay and Buddhism

I'm a gay man. I'm not convinced that paṇḍaka doesn't simply refer to homosexual. The commentarial explanation is irrelevant, the commentary is very late & gets lots of things wrong. In the vinaya when the term is used the paṇḍaka in question is clearly a homosexual man. It might refer to a specifi...

Re: death of forum member dylanj

He changed his Facebook picture ten days ago. He looked fine and healthy. I suspect he committed suicide? :(

I hope he is well and happy wherever he was reborn. May he have attained stream-entry or once-returner and escape this horrid samsara at some point.

Re: MN8/DN15: ending of perceptions of impingement/resistance

Ven. Ajahn Thanissaro explores this theme in this essay "Silence isn't Mandatory". Worth reading!

This concept of purity of jhana should have been more explored in the Canon. It seems it is mentioned once in Vinaya.
Thanks ven. Mahāmoggallana for being so humble.

Re: MN8/DN15: ending of perceptions of impingement/resistance

I thought it was stopping perceiving the body, as if it was not present anymore while in one of the arupas, but rereading those suttas I wonder if it means anything else. That's pretty much it. Ven. Bodhi's note from "Connected Discourses" citing Comy's explanation of "impingement"/"resistance" Spk...

MN8/DN15: ending of perceptions of impingement/resistance

It's possible that some mendicant, going totally beyond perceptions of form, with the ending of perceptions of impingement , not focusing on perceptions of diversity, aware that ‘space is infinite’, might enter and remain in the dimension of infinite space. They might think they’re practicing self-...

Re: Sri Lanka|Thailand|Myanmar|Malaysia: lastest news on opening to foreigners

I wonder if monasteries will function normally when airports in Thailand open. When I talked to the abbot of Sasanarakkha, ven. Ariyadhammika, he said to me that if I managed to enter Malaysia they would allow me to stay in the monastery as a yogi as long as I wished until ordination was available (...
