Re: from Mahayana to Theravada

Mahayana has it's finer points, for sure. There is true enlightenment in Tibetan and Zen Buddhism! Emptiness is much more focused upon, at all stages. This is unlike Theravada, where emptiness is something that "comes to light" over time, and not much discussed for the beginner student. Qigong and y...

Re: Buddhist Marriages

Yes, but I think it is in the interest of Buddhism that the laity be supported in their practice, rather than widening the gulf between the ordained and the laity. In many places, the laity has played a very big role in the preservation of the teachings. It is a symbiotic relationship that deserves...

Re: Buddhist Marriages

Buddhism is a belief system that is about solitude and monastic living. Adapting it to family life has been a struggle over the centuries.

Re: Right livelihood in entertainment question

We must be very careful in judging people based on their job. There are people in "legit" jobs doing terrible things to others. Many of us don't even know. The West makes too much ado about sex, especially if no cheating or violence is going on (then it's even much more serious). We all know that po...

Re: Ajahn Pannobhasa is disrobing

Oh how politics divides people... As Buddhists, we must align with a political party that is most in sync with Buddhist teachings. Even if I disagree with the Progressives Liberals in some areas, I have no choice but to support them (liberals believe more in equality; environmental protections; mino...

Re: Why does Classical Theravada become your favorite choice, rather than all the other paths?

I think that there is a greater emphasis on morality in Theravada than in other traditions. I do not like to generalize, but that has been experience thusfar. Morality must be the basis on which you build your meditation practice. If you're not trying to be moral, what does your practice really mean...

Re: Is it appropriate (relevant) to teach the Dhamma to laypeople which are mainly meant for Buddhist Monks?

I think the problem is some certain lay people have unrealistic expectations about what they can achieve with Buddhism :goodpost: Very true DD, ....and there are even some people who thing they're enlightened after doing a few minutes of meditation occasionally and then hanging around internet grou...

Re: Is it appropriate (relevant) to teach the Dhamma to laypeople which are mainly meant for Buddhist Monks?

PS My point here is not to smear Buddhism or Theravada, a form I love, am devoted to and feel profoundly grateful for -- I will always bow down before the wisdom of The Buddha. However -- my point is simply to say, that Monks are just human beings -- no more no less, and are just as prone to flight...

People who are not desperate, will never become monks

Re: Can i use sexual fantasy daydream for induce tranquality?

People say strange things on this forum. I know this thing I want to do is wrong, but maybe they will give me permission to do it anyway. And it is a a Buddhist forum. At least PayPal some money to your favorite Dhamma group and recite 108 Suttas. You have to see clearly why something is wrong or i...

Yes, understanding the lack of inherent existence in sensual pleasures helps us resist the temptation and see the drawbacks of performing such actions. Our minds must see ...
