Re: The subject of "Buddha-Nature" in Theravada Buddhism. What unites Buddhists?

[title] .. What unites Buddhists? Quite easy. What unites Buddhists is ... Anatta, of course. BTW, What divides Buddhists is ... umm ... Anatta too. :jumping: That's an interesting way of putting it. An old Buddhist Nun once said: 'If there is no Self, there is no Other'. I agree with you I think. ...

Re: masturbation what's wrong?

find the Buddha within. You may be surprised at what He says to you. He's quite the tolerant, and healthy, logical, and rational Spiritual Master. Speaking metaphorically, I assume. - He's dead, isn't he? Toleration, health, logic, and rationality being the preserve of the living. I think out of al...

Re: masturbation what's wrong?

Celibacy isn't required for any level of liberation. That's just an old myth. If you don't think people can change things on a piece of paper, then worship your price of paper. Otherwise find the Buddha within. You may be surprised at what He says to you. He's quite the tolerant, and healthy, logica...

Re: Is hair spiritual?

There is an aspect of respect that many people give to their body. Is your nose sacred? Eye? Ear? Heart? The Vedas for example would equate hair to trees. It's important to respect the body. But there are many Spiritual Traditions.

Re: Revisiting The Buddha's Ethnicity

In whichever way it mattered in India to the racists, just as there are racists of today, let go of that. Forget about physical differences, find unity in the study of the Dhamma within. What makes a real Noble, Arya, or Aryan, is renunciation of Samsara and the decision to incorporate the fullness ...

Bowing down to an Enlightened one has nothing to do with their ethnicity.

Re: Buddha appear lagging behind Jesus & Mohammed

I think that what is really important is a view of the Dhamma that gives benefit to those who are both practicing it and looking at it from the outside, hoping to incorporate aspects of it to within their lives. The biggest thing is Enlightenment. It's a gateway to so many things. I think Buddhists ...

Re: Safe place during war

Thanks for the conclusive Wisdom. Sadly, I fear it will prove to be inconclusive. Everything you've got is conclusive because it's based on the Dhamma. Without dispelling ignorance, nothing useful can be done, and before ignorance is dispelled with the light of knowledge, lust must be done ...

Hello mahabrahma do you think Australia is safe? :namaste: It's kind of out there. Lots of empty space. Doesn't like wars. :namaste: Unfortunately, isolation didn't save Australia, New Zealand, and Canada losing a similar proportion of their population as the UK in the pointless slaughter of World ...

Re: Safe place during war

Isn't the last fetter to be abandoned ignorance? Kāmacchanda is a lower fetter, abandoned by non-returners. You're right by that standard. By the standard of the Pali Canon, you mean? I know it's an irritating little hobby some of us have, but it's nice to be appreciated. :anjali: Well sometimes yo...

No… I think the last fetter to be abandoned is the sensual one Isn't the last fetter to be abandoned ignorance? Kāmacchanda is a lower fetter, abandoned by non-returners. You're right by that standard. I think what I mean to say is that when we ignore the suffering of others: for example an insect,...

Re: Ahara Sutta, Son's Flesh

Food does not originate from craving. Craving means lusting after it. Not every thought in your mind is desire or craving after it. It's okay to want to eat, sleep, mate, and defend. Do you want to inhale some breath? Don't stop yourself!
