Re: Is Alan Wats a hypocrite?
Sometimes it is better not to understand why someone might have a certain problem. This is one of them. It is like creeping up to the edge of a cliff to have a good look at the body of someone who has already gone over the edge. You never know when it might crumble and take you along also. Watch out...

Looks like I have to use google myself to get that answer. Visuddhimagga and Vimuttimagga.

Re: What is Ojas in Buddhism?
In Traditional Chinese Medicine the three treasures are Chi, Jing, and Shen. They go in ascending order. Shen is mental and spiritual, the most refined of the three. You can take tonics to increase Shen and tonics to activate the Shen you already have. I'm not sure how many TCM approaches are actual...

Re: Judgement
I am fact; others are fiction. chownah you are confused My initial response was to say it is just a joke and anyone should be able to see that. But also, unless you are psychic it is just conjecture that other people are real from their side. There was a one line joke to the effect that if you beli...

Re: A doctrinally comprehensive guide to achieving Nibbana?
We can't agree on one here. It sounds like what you need is a good teacher in person. Otherwise you will just have to read everything you can get your hands on, experiment with it, and decide who is right. However you spell Vissudimagga it is the most famous. There was a related one which only survi...

Re: The Magic of Mushrooms - A Psilocybin Renaissance
Dhamma is vastly more accessible to me than shrooms. Also, it is dangerous to eat wild mushrooms unless you really know what you are doing.

Fact in that I am a result of a combination of causes and I perform the functions of a sentient being.

Re: difference between tranquility and drowsiness
Sloth and torpor is kind of my thing. It is like having a firm grip on something in your hand and slowly it starts to slip away from you. But mentally, with your object. And your ability to realize you are losing your grip tends to go away slowly at the same time. Sometimes it feels uncomfortable an...

Re: Ordination in covid time
Before covid when you could have large gatherings at churches I used to think it would be interesting to get everyone to start counting their breaths all at once. Just a basic form of concentration meditation. So many people all in one place trying to care about religion and just letting someone do ...

Re: Ordination in covid time
A job, a place to live, groceries, clothes. Maybe a few friends. Save up some money. You have to have something before you can give it up. And if you can meditate while you are living a regular life the effort counts for more. Out there you have to fight against the current to be spiritual. Then if ...

There will always be someone here who will be only too happy to judge you. Don't give them ammunition.

At least be successful first. Then become a monk. Don't do it because life is hard and you just want to be taken care of.

Interrupting your meditation and going back in sends you deeper than just staying in.

If you can arrange your schedule so you have a good 3 or 4 hours of meditation every day, why do you have to be a monk?

It seems to me that you have two choices. You can practice or you can give up.
