Re: Conquering Masturbation

Dear all, One of the most strong attachment is the sexual drive. It can be quelched at the first wave of desire yhru observations but the waves keep hitting the castle in the sand until it collapses. At some point the stress becomes very hard to deal with and negatively impacts different areas in l...

Re: Are Brahmas still deluded by Mara? + more questions

Marketing director of the desire realm? I don't know for sure, but his job of a Tempter is petty close to Marketing Dorectorship... Make people self-identify with the character and buy things with cash (kamma dept). Also kamma law seems to be very close to algorithms of youtube facebook etc. : it s...

What today's monasteries need most - bhikkhus or lay supporters?

Hello,

A question arose - what today's monasteries need most: good bhikkhus or good lay supporters?

If ordained Venerables could clarify this interrogation it will be great !

Re: How can we help (our) kids from buddhism?

Only by our own example. If we apply Dhamma in our daily life, and if we explain to our childrens why in this situation we acted like this (non-greed, non-hatred, non-delusion) and not like that (greed, hatred, delusion) - it will be our best gift to them. But if we will teach them Dhamma, but our b...

Re: Hesitating

Thanks, Bhante. How have you distinguished between a good community and a not so good one? (Yesterday I red about an intresting thing. Ajahn Nanadhammo from Thai Forest Tradition said that when meditation masters visit a monastery, firstly they check meditation paths. If paths are long and well use...

Re: Are Brahmas still deluded by Mara? + more questions

Good video on Mara : https://youtu.be/4h7eWXRNC8A I suppose Mara to be some kind of Marketing Director of this game called Samsara. He is not a bad guy but his job is to keep costumers play his game by encourage them to create kammic dept etc. Or some kind of mother that keep his childrens in golden...

Re: What Ven.Ajahn Chah meant by "The Timeless Buddha"

As I understand he talked about unconditioned dhamma, that the true refuge is when we find this dhamma in our hearts and take refuge in it. Also he said that this dhamma is anatta and every sentient being have it. Buddha means Awakened One, so by saying "Buddha is timeless" he said that "Nibbana/Unc...

Re: 'drink and drugs that cause carelessness'

I don't think that it's a good thing to direct our mind to seek for breaches and means to overcome rules. We need to look at the spirit of the rule, not at It's form. It's like the monk who, out of sensual desire, reflected : ok, so Lord Buddha prohibited sex with womens, but he said nothing about a...

Re: Why Buddha did not ask us to make a grand boat and cross the flood?

Why we don't build a big boat? I suppose that the time needed to build a big boat is too long, and we will die maybe without even finishing it. Big boat here is theoretical knowledges and hoping that in some life, some day, better conditions will be present: less waves, less wind, less rain, less da...

Re: If human is the best realm

Yes its the best place for practice? Why? Because dukkha and sukkha are equally presented. Because the Dhamma is available. To understand why heavenly realms are actually hells for those who want freedom - one have just try to practice 8 precepts for week, mounth, year... in lay life. This experianc...

Re: Is there any point in meditating for unsecluded laypeople?

... Thank you. So you think in laylife, formal meditation (loving-kindness, breathing mindfulness, body contemplation) are still benefitial in regard to developing deep peace and even mindfulness... (given that you kept eight precepts and also developed sila). Ok, it sounds that it might be like th...
