Re: Aniccaṃ = Impermanent
... The relationship to time is pretty much standard. Here are some passages that I collected in the meantime that highlight some more aspects, incl. that of time... Standard doesn't make it accurate and appropriate or useful. The teachings don't seem to be about foreseeing the future, don't seem t...

Re: Aniccaṃ = Impermanent
... You can see the synonyms for niccaṃ (permanent) are all about time, except one (kevalaṃ = total)... I think conceiving anicca as referring to time isn't as good as understanding it as about instability, unsafety, uncertainty. ... My question would be: Could you share any passages (preferably ca...

Re: What is the difference between ignorance and wrong view?
I myself translate as "not understanding" (avijja) and "inappropriate understanding" (Michha ditthi).
The difference being a lack of understanding in the first case and an understanding that leads to nowhere good in the latter.

How can you see X as X when full of greed. Not possible in my view. It doesn't sound optional to me. But let's wait to learn about grammatical possibilities here.

Re: Do we need to make an effort to control or should we not try to control our breathing during meditation?
I would suggest calming bodily fabrication means letting go of controlling and allowing the breath to become naturally calm, controlling agitates rather than calms. Stilling the waters of perception. It's not about airflow control. It's about making our tumultuous way of understanding to calm down....

Re: Translators views
They'll definitely have to use someone's interpretation. We need Arahant translators who know what they're talking about when translating the texts.dharmavital wrote: ↑Mon Apr 01, 2024 11:47 am Hello.
A simple question: Can a sutta translator avoid his own interpretations of the teachings while translating?
Cheers!

Re: Getting through guilt and other emotional difficulties
From the Buddha’s time until nowadays people both lay and monastic have been meditating, for its great benefits. Just like people go to the gym, to work on the body. You can meditate to work on the mind. It will be very beneficial now and in the future. It is not difficult to meditate, you just nee...
