I broke a precept today...
I lied to my teacher that I was writing what she was saying down, now I feel bad for lying, I wish to do better. She was helping me at the time, I wish to repay her kindness. What can I do to make amends?

Re: Struggling With Samsara: How Rare Is A Human Birth?
Thank you everyone for your insightful posts, they’re helpful! Here’s an update on my progress: I’m refraining from sensual pleasures such as ignoring the TV and eating mindfully. I’m also meditating more and have tried walking meditation. I’ve spoken with my mother and she has really agreed with my...

Lovingkindness Meditation
Hi there!
I was pondering about metta meditation, I often refrain from doing it because I feel that it will drain my energy and tire me out. I often have the view that it is a waste of time. Is this the case? How do I find the motivation to do it?

Re: Newbie Impermanence topic question.
Hi there! I’m fairly new into delving deeper into the practice of Buddhism myself, so I hope I’m helpful! From my understanding we do good things because of it’s positive effect on others and, for our own well-being or karma. The first two passages of the Dhammapada phrases this quite well: All ment...

Re: Struggling With Samsara: How Rare Is A Human Birth?
This makes sense! Thank you everyone! By animal care I mean husbandry: cleaning out, feeding, etc... But it also includes the other aspects as well. Thank you for the sutta, it is rare indeed!

Hi there! I’m sure your age doesn’t get in the way of becoming a monastic! I wish you well with getting involved in a sangha community, just reach out and ask a monk! I’m sure they’ll be welcoming! :D Just switch the digits. You're 35 if they ask. Not a good idea, if you cannot keep the five precept...
