Re: from Mahayana to Theravada

Wise compassion So, carrying a young, pretty, frightened lady in our arms through a river is not wise... Good to know it. :embarassed: Thank you. Ajahn J's story is a twist on the Zen story. In case anyone doesn't know the original Zen story, here it is: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kX6...

Re: Possible Buddha, Metteya?

In related news, the dead body of "Mother God" was found by authorities seated in a chair throne before an altar, eyeless, in a sleeping bag, covered in Christmas lights, being worshipped by cult members. Some are currently in custody. Charges, AFAIK, include desecration of a corpse. I need to link...

Re: Did this modern Russian God create an early Buddhist commune in Siberia???

Vissarion has all the characteristics of a cult leader. He lives on top of a hill in a house apparently by himself. He rarely comes out to greet the followers. This provides a 'mystique' about him, making it more 'special' when people finally get to see him. He rarely gives interviews and doesn't al...

Re: visiting holy sites

is it necessary to take pilgrimage sites to where buddha born, got enlightened, parinibbana and first sermon ? It's not required, for example in the way it is one of the Five Pillars of Islam to make pilgrimage. However, it can be considered at least a recommendation, for those that can afford it. ...

Re: Did this modern Russian God create an early Buddhist commune in Siberia???

How is that Buddhist? It appears to be a Christian-based cult. But it appears to be very Buddhist, just listen to what the leader (God) says... Okay, watched it. And still don't see anything Buddhist. He believes in reincarnation, UFOs, that aliens are soulless or something like that, but still ver...

Or the English translation at this link:

Re: Maha Bodhi Temple Replicas

You are finding so many in Myanmar that it's hard for me to keep up with my Maha Bodhi Replicas page, so in the meantime, I've added this note to my page: There may be at least another 20 or more in Myanmar (Burma), not shown here. For a complete list, including photos, see: https://www.dhammawheel....

Re: Plagarism or copy pasting is stealing?

I have copy-pasted some Suttas to Dhamma Wiki, but only those that are in public domain, offered for free and my distribution is also for free, no charges or money involved. For the translations of most of the suttas and passages from the Pali Canon, the great Theravada website resource, Access to I...
